Meet the author and illustrator of Hope's Gift

Posted on January 16, 2013

The Richard B. Harrison Community Library of Wake County Public Libraries will host

author Kelly Starling Lyons and illustrator, Don Tate on January 24, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. in the

community meeting room. Ms. Lyons and Mr. Tate are making new tracks in the world of

children’s literature, bringing African American history to life through warm, heartfelt words

and illustrations. The evening will feature both as they read aloud and discuss the illustrations

from Hope’s Gift. The book is an engaging tale of a young girl’s imaginative journey to find her

father who has joined the Union Army to fight for freedom. Also on hand for the evening will be

re-enactors from the U. S. Colored Troop who have stories of their own to tell about items and

events from the book. The program is being offered free of charge to families and young school

aged readers. Registration is not required
