Sleeping Single in a Double Bed

Sleeping with your children in a double bed on vacation is not fun.

In the late ’70s, Barbara Mandrell belted out “Sleeping Single in a Double Bed” like it was a bad thing.

Obviously, she hasn’t traveled with children because sleeping on a double bed with either one of my children is the pits.

Talk about some sleepless nights.  It makes my husband want to stay home.

I just complain. I don’t want to stay home, but it makes me happy to see my own bed when the trip is over.

He usually gets one child in bed with him. I take the other.

One child sleeps sideways.  One child kicks you in the back. No matter how you look at it, it’s the equation for some sleepless nights when you are on vacation.

The alternative is to put the two together in one bed when we travel, but have you seen a double bed lately?

There isn’t much room for two adults, either.  At least the kids are small.

I’ve decided that sleeping with my son is better than sleeping with my daughter when we go to hotels that have two double beds, instead of queen beds.  I think he is the lesser of two evils.

It’s a good thing she is a daddy’s girl because she actually prefers him anyway.

It was unusual for her, but she wanted to sleep with me on our last trip to Asheville.  At 5:30 a.m., she woke up and decided she didn’t want me in the bed.  She started kicking me in the back, harder and harder.

She even yelled, “Get OUT, lady!”

Apparently, she wants to sleep single in a double bed, too.
