Pre-Dawn Mother's Day

Posted by Jennifer Gregory on May 13, 2013

As I sat on the sidelines of the soccer field at 7:30 am sipping my coffee, I kept wishing that I could spend my Mother’s Day any other way. If my son didn’t have a soccer game, I would have slept in and had my coffee on the deck while leisurely reading the newspaper. Or perhaps, I would have enjoyed a home cooked breakfast by family instead of eating a breakfast bar on the way to the field. But instead I found myself waking to my alarm at 6 am and rushing to get everyone in the family ready for soccer games, much like my usual weekend mornings.

But once the caffeine kicked in and the morning chill wore off, I began to realize that in many ways this was the perfect Mother’s Day.  As we searched for missing cleats and shin guards before the game, my family gave me a beautiful photo album that they had spent hours compiling. And I got the opportunity to sit with my daughter and watch my son play his favorite sport. While this could be most any day of my life, there is something about Mother’s Day that makes you pay special attention to the blessings we are given and the gift of every day moments.

So while it would have been wonderful to sleep past dawn, I wouldn’t have traded any moment of my Mother’s Day with my family. And I hope of you enjoyed your day as much as I did.
