Attachment parenting
According to Attachment Parenting International, attachment parenting is a “philosophy based in the practice of nurturing parenting practices that create strong emotional bonds between the infant and parent.” It encourages close connections through breastfeeding, “babywearing,” and co-sleeping, among other techniques.
If this sounds like the right fit for you, go to www.attachmentparenting.org or www.naturalchild.org to learn more.
There are a couple of support groups in the Triangle.
Triangle Attachment Parenting International is the local chapter of the international group. The group meets regularly. Check out its Web site for information about meetings and other activities.
Another group meets from 10 a.m. to noon on the fourth Monday of every month in North Raleigh. Contact Deborah at 606-9623 or debbliz@earthlink.net for more information and how to get involved.
Groups in Cary and Chapel Hill have disbanded over the last couple of years.
Deborah of the North Raleigh group recommends that parents in others areas who are interested in attachment parenting, get involved in local La Leche League groups (www.lllofnc.org). For more information about La Leche League, go to our Breastfeeding page.
