Birthing Centers

No matter where you live in the Triangle, there are some great hospitals with birthing centers. Check out the list below to see what one might work for you.

Hospitals with Birthing Centers

Wake County

* WakeMed Women's Pavilion & Birthplace has two locations - 3000 New Bern Ave., Raleigh, and 1900 Kildaire Farm Rd., Cary. WakeMed delivers over 7,000 babies every year.

WakeMed also has one of only nine Mother's Milk Banks in the United States.

* Rex Hospital, located at 4420 Lake Boone Trail, has a Birthing Center with several OB/GYN practices in the building. If you already know you will be delivering at Rex, you can register for childbirth classes here.

Durham County

* More than 2,000 babies per year are delivered at Durham Regional Hospital's birthing center, 3643 N. Roxboro Rd. The hospital offers classes - prenatal, birthing and postnatal - to help a new mom get back into shape.

If you are new to the area and are in search of an OG/GYN, the hospital offers a physician directory to help you.

* Duke University Hospital is located at 2301 Erwin Rd. The Duke Obstetrics and Gynecology offices offer gynecological and pregnancy exams, help with contraception, adolescent care, and sexuality and menopause counseling.

Orange County

The N.C. Women's Hospital is located at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill at 101 Manning Dr. The hospital has an in depth FAQ about having a baby at UNC, as well as classes for both the new mom and dad.

The Women's Birth & Wellness Center in Chapel Hill offers an alternative to hospital birth, including maternity-care by certified nurse-midwives, early discharge after birth, postpartum home visits and other options. Most women return home within six hours after giving birth. Check out the center's Frequently Asked Questions page to learn more. A boutique offers slings, nursing bras, cloth diapers, organic and locally made goods, wooden toys and other items.

Johnston County

Johnston Memorial Hospital is located at 509 N. Bright Leaf Blvd. in Smithfield. The hospital hosts the Women's Pavilion on the ground floor, complete with birthing suites, classes and a special meal for the parents after delivery!
