Addicted to Voting
Are you addicted to voting like I am? I vote when there's almost nothing on the ballot. When my kids get a bit older, I'm definitely bringing them with me to the polling location. I just think that you (general 'you') have absolutely no right to complain about anything unless you are actively participating in your government. It's our responsibility. Now, on the flip side, things have changed dramatically since this country was founded. The second someone sneezes--or gets jiggy with a cigar in the oval office--the whole world knows about it. Much of the "noise" is truly a distraction that takes away from real leadership and governing that used to be far more possible. That piece is a little disappointing, but the trade-offs abound. I'm still trying to figure out why we still need an electoral college. Information arrives in seconds rather than months. Our education system is much better than it was 200 yrs ago.
I have no interest in being a politician. I sure am glad there are others anxious to do those jobs. I'll vote, but I'd never run for anything.
Are you a politics junky? Would you run for an office? If so, which office?

I'm a political junky and will probably be up for hours waiting for Indiana's results. I wouldn't run for office, though. Glad others do.
I will not be up waiting for Indiana's results as Natalie is, but I'm lingering here in the newsroom longer than I normally would. And I definitely would not run for office, but agree with Natalie - glad people do.
My children have always gone with me to vote. They enjoy the Kids Voting program. My son voted for the first time when he was 4. Afterwards I asked him how he decided which person to vote for. He responded that he voted for the pretty people. My six-year-old daughter responded that she only voted for the women. Its funny to hear children say it, but it is a little scary to think that this is the same method used by some adults whose votes count.
