Anyone familiar with Transitional Kindergarten?
Our little man, who just turned 5 in March, is looking like he's not quite ready for prime-time kindergarten in the fall. I've heard that Transitional Kindergarten might be the way to go, but the one I knew of is not offering that class this fall. Does anyone have any experience they can share, or can you recommend one in the Northwest Raleigh area (near Lynn / Glenwood)? Thanks so much!

I believe there is one spot left at the program at Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Five Points - though that's probably way out of your search area.
Thank you! I will check into that! Do you know anyone who's sent their child there? Thanks again!
It's actually in my neighborhood and the opening was mentioned on my neighborhood playgroup listserv yesterday. I just know people informally who send their kids there, but I'm told the daycare/preschool there is wonderful. It's a really nice, large church.
I've also heard good things about the pre-k program at Sacred Heart Cathedral, which is downtown. I'm not sure if it's a transitional kindergarten so to speak, but it's a lot more like school than daycare or preschool. A mom whose son used to be at my daughter's daycare sent her son there. She said it's very structured - she couldn't walk in late every morning with her son like she did at the old school. Might be worth checking out the other Catholic preschools in the area too. They're open to everybody though parishoners are first to get in.
Yes, I was going to suggest St. Francis preschool on Leesville. All of my kids went there and we loved it, but we didn't do the transitional program. I knew other people who did though, and they loved it. I bet since the birthdate has been moved up for K, we'll see a big need for the transitional program.
I know several people who have had a wonderful experience at the Transitional PreK at St. Marks United Methodist on Six Forks
