Did you see The N&O story about the Asheboro Zoo? The place is in need of updates and repairs that will cost millions.

Haven't seen the article, but I know they are wanting to upgrade the polar bear exhibit and build a Children's Nature Zoo. (See here for info)

Do you have a link to the story?

I'm a dork. Just saw the last line of the post that I somehow didn't see earlier :-)

Ok, now I've read it. Wow, didn't realize it was that bad. I know the African Pavilion is NOT high on my list of exhibits to see at the zoo, mostly because it's crowded and next to impossible to get through with a stroller (especially when people without strollers or other impairments that prevent the use of stairs congregate on the ramps to look into empty exhibits as if they might see something, but that's a rant for another day!). Last time we were there, I did notice that a lot of the exhibits in there were closed. I do hope they can get the funding to build a replacement for that and the polar bear exhibit. I love taking my boys to the zoo.
