My son hates those, too. It depends on where the sensor is located, but sometimes you can drape a bit of tp over it and the child can pull it down when he/she is ready to flush.
no, sorry. I'm terrified of the awful things myself. Nothing like being sprayed in the tush while peeing. ugh. It's happened to me more times than should be allowed. I dread hearing the awful roar of the flush. Wish they were illegal! well, maybe that's a bit harsh... Maybe with a child, try to 1) validate the terror, (tell them you know adults that feel the same way!) then 2) try to be light-hearted or make a fun game out of the beast. distract, distract, distract. good luck! I laugh about these flushing toilets to others, while secretly terrorized by them!
Thanks guys! Apparently Post-it Notes also work! I've also been talking up the potties a lot and telling stories with my daughter about a little girl who goes to the potty on one and survives. We haven't tried the notes or tp yet or been to a potty with the flusher, but I'm hopeful.
Any way, if you'd like to read more about the automatic flush, why it exists and/or how to get your kid to go ....
They freaked my son out the first time he encountered one, but I explained that it was a "magic potty", and it flushes all by itself! He just though that was awesome, and now is sure to point out to me when we run into "magic sinks" and "magic hand dryers". :-)
Something is sort of working and on the same theme as the "magic potty." The Post-it note fell off the thing and into the toilet when I tried it the other week. Which really freaked her out. I've used blue painters tape with success and I'm calling it the "magic tape." It stays stuck and is at least getting her to do the deed.
Great ideas!! My 9 yr old is still scared of them. None of the rest of my kids are though. She just usually has someone come in with her and put their hand over it until she's done. The post it notes are a great idea though!

Victory seems so close.
