Best time for parties
Calling Emily Post wannabees: Best time for parties?
Does anyone have opinions about the best time for parties? I have an invitation for a party Sunday morning at 11:00. The family is religious, but not Christian. With family life getting so busy, sometimes finding a good time for all concerned is tough to schedule. Sunday mornings seems to be getting more popular for kids get-togethers. Has anyone else noticed this? I don't usually consider Sunday mornings when I am trying to arrange playdates, brunches, parties, etc. Do you consider it appropriate?

Between lists of items to accomplish on Saturday afternoons, napping kids, and hang-overs to nurse, I think that is prime time. I would welcome a Sunday morning invite. Think of the mimosas that could be waiting...
I actually went to a shower yesterday (Sunday) morning for brunch. At 411 in Chapel Hill. It was lovely!!!!! But Moms only.
I try to avoid planning parties on Sunday mornings. If we plan a Sunday event, it is usually around 4 or 5 pm. I try to avoid Sunday mornings just because one or two of my friends do attend church, and I try to be respectful of that.
Otherwise, Saturday morning or afternoons is another time to plan a party.
Where I grew up, nothing was planned for Sundays. Many stores were closed on Sundays, as well. I just had a conversation with a neighbor about how strange it felt that now it seems as Sundays are treated as any other day of the week. Our childrens coaches plan practices on Sundays sometimes, and many times their games are scheduled on that day also. I am not saying this is a bad idea, it just seems kind of strange to get used to.
I like the idea of one no-events time of the week: sunday morning. No practices, rehersals, homework, professional engagements, social obligations, appointments, kids activities. Life is overwhelmingly time-deficient, and a few hours a week with NO commitments is a welcome respite for me. One can reflect, go to church, write, read, lounge, stay in bed, go for a walk, just regroup for the weeks commitments. I like this traditional time off! Let's see, tomorrow night, I have four places I am supposed to be at the same time. THat's more typical. I cherish my Sunday mornings!
