Breastmilk production and birth control
I recently went to my post-partum check up and was put back onto birth control pills by my OBGYN. 5 days into the Rx, my milk flow production has significantly dropped. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I used kellymom.com a lot when I was first breastfeeding and always found the information really helpful.
So this may help. Apparently pills with estrogen have been linked to low milk supply. Here's the link: http://www.kellymom.com/health/meds/birthcontrol.html#sideeffects.
When my supply went down, I found that eating oatmeal helped. I also would pump more often. But it also looks like you may need to change your pill.
Any other advice out?
Good luck! Let us know how it goes!

Thanks so much for the advice. I will definitely try the oatmeal, and I have a co-worker that suggested an herbal supplement. I'm waiting to hear back from my doc about the BC.
Is it fenugreek? I never tried it because the oatmeal always worked for me, but I'm told it can really help. Pretty sure kellymom.com will have some other information about increasing your supply too. Good luck!
thanks so much for the website. I checked it out and was able to figure out my doc put me on the combination pill, which did dramatically decrease my milk production. I was also able to read up on the mini pill and all the brand names for that so I could be proactive about the new pill he would put me on. He chose a mini pill that my pharmacy carried and hopefully in the next 2-3 days I'll be back to normal. Fenugreek was the supplement my boss suggested, and when I contacted a leader from the La Leche League, she suggested a local herbalist shop, which a certified herbalist who could suggest a couple of other natural herbal supplements. I really hope I can breastfeed my son for the full first year. My daughter only let me feed her until she was 16 weeks old, and then I was able to pump until she was 9 months. If I had known about these supplements back then I probably would have been able to finish out her first year too.
I am so glad it's working out! Where is that herbalist shop?
She said the herbalist shop is called Sunshine Help and it's on Main St. in Clayton. I haven't checked it out yet, but I plan to. My milk finally came back in after they switched my Rx, but it's not as bountiful as it was, so, hopefully this weekend will be when I can get some supplements.
That's great to hear! Thanks for passing on the info on the shop.
