Carolina Ballet

Has anyone seen Sleeping Beauty?
DD wants to go-she loved the Nutcracker.
Is it long? DD is 4 and generally loves all things pink, frilly, ballet, princess, fairy, enchanted.
She doesn't quite understand that the ballet isn't just like the Disney depiction...blond hair, pink dress...but I feel like she'll still like it??!!

Does anyone have opinion?

I haven't gone, but I know they'll have things for kids there. At 10:30 today they'll have a princess and prince costume contest. So she can go dressed up. And then tomorrow I believe Miss NC will be there.

I was talking to someone who produces plays for kids and she gave this rule: If your child can sit through a Disney movie, she probably can sit through a live performance like this.

Oh, I know it is too late since the show is over, but for future reference, here is my experience. I took my barely 3 yr. old to The Sleeping Beauty 11am show. The audience was mostly families with young children. The ballet was longer than I expected and we left just after the 2 hour mark. I think it ended not long after that, but my daughter was getting really squirmy, so I opted to get us out of there. She very much enjoyed it and I look forward to taking her to another ballet (kid-friendly again) in the future. So, Beth, did you go to The Sleeping Beauty?

we did go and DD got spooked with the dragon even though i'd prepped her on it. she bolted up the aisle and would have nothing else to do with the show. Luckily that came towards the end of the show.

Wish it had been a little shorter, but that's only because I was there with a 4 year old.

wonder if they every consider "abridged" versions of these classics for the matinees? Probably not...

The Raleigh Dance Theatre is putting on Sleeping Beauty and Fancy Nancy pretty soon, I think in November. It's a great show and it's in the smaller theatre, the Progress Energy Theatre, I think it's called. The tickets are only $10, so it's much more cost efficient.

I've taken my girls to the ballet since they were 3 and they've both loved it immensely.

If you want more info on the Raleigh Theatre, let me know. :)
