Cleaning Wood Floors
Ok, please forgive the unbearable housewifelyness of this post, but I'm wondering how you all keep your wood floors clean. I've been using a spray-and-mop wood cleaner (Orange Glo) with a microfiber mop, but it just doesn't seem to be doing the job anymore. Do you all have any suggestions that may work better (short of actual hands-and-knees scrubbing, because that would totally wrinkle my pinafore, and my pearls would get in the way).

Now I'm embarrassed to say that I don't actually mop them. I sweep and dust them, but no mopping. Then again, my daughter often tells me that the house "is a mess." So I'm not really any help.
I use a Swifter Wet Jet. it gets the floors damp enough to clean, but not too wet that it will damage the floors. It is also convenient for quick spill clean ups. Love your comment about your pinafore and pearls!
I use Vinager mixed with water in a spray bottle then go over it w/ just the mop part of my swifter mop. This is what was recommended by my builder and it works great and doesn't leave a dull film on the finish. Yeah it smells alittle but the smell doesn't last long. B/w mopping I just use a regular swifter to pick up the dirt and dust.
I've lived in my house almost 3 years, and just actually started sweeping and mopping my floor on a weekly basis this past Easter. Terrible, I know. And I don't think I have real hard wood floors, but I just use pinesol. Floors look pretty good and it smells good. I'm not much of a house wife. I usually just spot clean the dirty parts with a paper towel and some 409 or something.
We don't wear shoes in the house. Still, I mop with water (sometimes a squirt of mild dish soap or murphy's oil or touch of vinegar) every other week. It stays shiny. Sweep when it needs it, Otherwise, plug in the roomba automatic vac and let it run all day and ignore the crumbs.
The care guide for our hardwood floors suggests diluting white vinegar with water (I think 25% vinegar, 75% water) and to lightly use it. Excessive water can seep into crevasses and evenutally warp the floor, so don't use too much. The guide discourages the use of commericial cleaners.
I try to stick with a soft dry mop or vacuum most of the time, but sometimes it really needs a cleaning.
I had wood floors at my old house and used Swiffer Wet Jet on them. It's so easy and quick.I vacuumed them instead of sweeping. I hate to sweep.
We just bought a Bissel Hard Wood Floor Steamer. It is amazing. It is so easy to use and it leaves the floors gleaming! The best thing about it is that it doesn't need any chemicals beacuse it kills germs and cleans with steam.
My husband is in charge of the floors and he used to use a regualr mop and bucket every few weeks. The floors were streaky, never really felt clean, and it was a pain in the a#$ to do.
He loves his new steamer so much that he just bought one for his friend as a house warming gift. I never thought I'd see the day..........
never heard of this steamer. thx!
I don't know about floors ad things like that, but when it comes to washing clothes Whirlpool Parts are the best. I bet that if you try them one you won't regret.
I use the purple Shark steam mop because it doesn't require any cleaners and leaves my floors without a residue.
A friend of mine cleans houses for a living and she swears by three things: 1) Murphy's Oil Soap, 2) hot, hot water, and 3) a soft cotton cloth. I tried it, and it beats my mop and/or Swiffer hands DOWN. I mean literally... I had my hands DOWN ON THE FLOOR (sorry wrinked pinafore...), but it did the trick. No streaks or residue. No spots and it dried in a flash. Best technique? Stick a thick towel under your knees and get a good arm/shoulder/back workout out of it. :)
