Dad bans text messages

Interesting blog post by Debbe Geiger, a Triangle-area mom who works at Duke, on nytimes.com today.

About six months ago, her husband banned text messaging for their 11-year-old son and 14-year-old daughter. Their daughter had been caught texting in class (by coincidence it was with her mom). Debbe's not so sure she agrees with the ban, but is going along with it.

I think I'm going to agree with the Dad here.

Just makes me glad my daughter is too young for texting ...

I don't understand why cell phones aren't banned completely in schools. Back in my day, my high school banned beepers. Particularly with texting, doesn't that make it easy for the kids to cheat on exams?

HAHA-an 11 and 14 yr old banned from texting is extreme punishment or newsworthy? My kids that age don't even own cell phones. What's most interesting is to read all the comments following her blog. Made me feel less alone!!
