For dads...

I felt the need to make an extra post today because I am offended on behalf of all the dads out there.

When Mother’s Day approached, the general impression from the media was that we should all be thanking mom for how great she is.  Mom deserves flowers and jewelry and praise.

Apparently, dad deserves a kick in the pants.  What’s with the ad campaign telling men how to be fathers?  While this is a message that some men need, Father’s Day seems a lousy time to give it.  We were supposed to be honoring dads.  There are a lot of fathers out there doing a fantastic job day in and day out and they deserve recognition just as much as the mothers do.

To all the dads who felt the love and responsibility of fatherhood from day one and never need any encouragement: Thank you!  I hope you get that encouragement anyway.

It's always something...

Amanda grew up in a small town in northern Ohio.  It’s the kind of place where teachers accidentally called her by her sister’s name and even occasionally, her mother’s.  Even though Amanda has grown comfortable in Cary, ties to her hometown, where her father is currently Mayor, are still strong.

She moved to the Triangle when she got married in July of 1999 as her husband, D, had a job here.  She soon found work in a field she never knew existed, but gave up a paycheck when her first child was born in May of 2003.  Y got a little sister, J, in February 2006.  Exactly one day after J turned three, the household was blessed with twins, baby boy G and baby girl M.

Mandy usually appears weekends on TriangleMom2Mom.
