Did you use pacifiers?

Did you use a pacifier with your kids?

I didn't mostly because I was trying to get the nursing going and was afraid of confusion. Then I just didn't want to deal with losing something she'd want. But I know pediatricians are recommending them now to combat SIDS. My sister, mom of a newborn, is thinking about it - though I think she's leaning toward the no pacifier. Just curious.

Both of mine loved their pacifiers....it helped them sleep. It was a pain when it fell out, but looking back, it's one of those things I can't really remember....funny how that happens.

The only time I used one is when I had breast surgery and was still nursing Ronnie. It was a two week period when he was done nursing and needed to comfort nurse and I would slip it in to give my breast a bit of a break. Once I started to heal, I stopped.

My other two children did not use pacifiers.

I never used bottles either though. LOL

My twins were premature and didn't have their sucking reflex yet so the hospital started them on pacifiers. I wasn't going to use them but it was helpful the the girls. I quit taking the pacifiers out in public at age one. They didn't leave the house or daycare (used for sleep time only). At age two I decided that they didn't need them anymore and WE (the girls and I) threw them away and quit cold turkey. They had trouble the first couple nights but after that they were fine.

if you nursing it best not to do it for the first 3 weeks then after that you can see your baby wants it.

My first son loved his then one day i hid it and he never sucked it again. My 2nd son does not care for it at all so it just depends on the baby. If it's helping you get some peace and quite go for it but i wouldn't pressue the baby to use.

I have use a pacifier with both my kids. My oldest, now 4 1/2, used it through age 2 and then we quit cold turkey on a trip away from home for a weekend. She never asked for it again. My newest addition, 3 1/2 weeks, is starting to take to the pacifier. He sometimes will grasp at it and then he spits it out. He will cry for it if he spits it out when he is sleeping.

My daughter used one until she was 8 months old and my son never liked them.

I only offered my 2 children the pacifer early on and neither one wanted them. Then my first (5 yr old-who was breast feeder and bottle feeder)sucked her thumb until I told her (at age 4 ) about me having to wear braces and a headgear for a long time and the reason was because I sucked my thumb. She quit then and never did it again.

My baby (who is a  breast feeder only) tried and occasionally tries to put her thumb in her mouth but  she doesn't suck her thumb. I am glad neither wanted a pacifier because just as bottle nipples can break down and cause a choking hazzard-so can pacifiers. I just didn't want to risk it. Also neither has a problem that they need to break and hopefully they won't have to go through the pain I did with orthodontal work.

Hope that helps!!!!

We used a pacifier until our son was 4 months old and refused to take it. He would get mad and cry at the sight of it.

My daughter liked to use pacifier very much in two cases when she was going asleep and when she was nervous. We used it for a quite long period of time. Actually we got rid of pacifier when my daughter was 1.8 years ald. And now telling the truth I am against pacifier. I am totally convinced that breast and breast milk are enough for practically every baby.
