Dream Job

Featured blogger Natalie Gott appears every Sunday.

This has been a rough week at our house. Lots of tantrums, lots of defiance. Lots of time-outs. I had hoped to be in a better mood when writing this introduction, but I’ll give it a shot anyway.

I'm a stay-at-home mom who usually loves her job, and even though the salary is horrible and the hours are long, the benefits (spontaneous kisses and hugs throughout the day and an occasional midday nap) make up for the shortcomings. I am, however, always searching for the perfect job posting to motivate me to get back in the game.

I envision the ad for my dream job to look something like this:
Help wanted: Hardworking journalist interested in politics and government needed to write about whatever is on her mind, to surf the Internet and to bake cookies. 20 hours a week. Competitive salary. Work from home or at office. Excellent benefits include paid time off to take children to doctor and to soccer practice. Summer work optional.

If you see it, please forward it to me. That company needs me.

Until then, I ‘m likely to keep my current job as a stay-at-home mom for a few more years. My kids are Guillermo, who is 4, and Maya, who is nearly 2.

Guillermo likes to play “guarder” and “tag, you’re it” (yes, he really calls it that). He loves his Playmobil castle, astronauts and space, and recently told me that he is done playing with his trains, forever. He goes to preschool a few days a week.

Maya likes puzzles and loves to paint. She is crazy about Dora, she loves to swing and she laughs uncontrollably when you find her in Guillermo’s closet, her favorite hiding spot. She’s with me every day.

We moved to Carrboro 2 1/2 years ago when my husband, Will, took a job in the area. We love it here.

I'm a former wire service reporter who, in the span of about nine years, worked in Kansas City, St. Louis, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, La., Austin, Texas, and briefly in Raleigh. By brief, I mean I worked in Raleigh for 10 months before giving birth to Maya. I took a long maternity leave and during that leave, I decided that changing diapers and listening to my son’s tantrums were things I wanted to do every day, All Day, for the rest of my life. I told you it’s been a bad week, but I do know how fortunate I am to have the opportunity to stay home with my kids. And, I love our frequent trips to the park, our chaotic trips to the library and our picnics in the front yard.

A little more about me: I love, love, love politics and love watching a bill become a law (even if I don’t like the law, I love the process). I like reading and I like the high you feel after a good workout (though not so much the workout itself). I spend way too much time on the Internet, especially Facebook, and celebrity gossip sites. I'm always trying to lose 10 pounds and, unfortunately for the diet thing, I make the best chocolate chip cookies you have ever tasted.

Natalie is a TriangleMom2Mom featured blogger, appearing every Sunday.

Natalie is a stay-at-home mom in Carrboro to castle- and mean sea creature-loving Guillermo, 4, and puzzle- and big brother-adoring Maya, 1 1/2. Natalie was a wire service reporter for nine years, but stopped working after Maya was born in 2006. Most mornings you can now find her at the playgrounds chasing her kids, who frequently are wearing superhero capes. Natalie grew up in Iowa and Peoria, Ill. After college, she lived in St. Louis, Baton Rouge, La., and Austin, Texas. In 2005, she and her husband moved to North Carolina and she proudly sings every word to the "It's Carrboro" rap. Natalie loves politics, reggae and grocery stores and readily admits she wastes too much time reading celebrity gossip, but just can't stop herself.

Congratulations, Natalie! I'm very excited to read your blog. As one of the best moms I've ever met, (and with the best sense of humor) you are highly qualified to write this blog. And with 2 of the cutest kids around you will have a lot to entertain people with!
