To Dye or not to Dye, that is the question

To be Grey or not to be Grey...Okay, here's a superficial question for you all to ponder, that we all ponder at some point: should  we color our hair to hide the grey?  Is it a trivial cosmetic luxury, or a statement of caving to society's demands of women to maintain youthful beauty with facelifts, and boob jobs and teethwhitening?     I have several fashionable friends who are totally grey, and look great.  But the majority of middle aged, teen's  moms that I know rabidly color those grey roots.   Did anyone see the Newsweek article where they photoshopped pictures of women by putting natural grey hair on them (like Nancy Pelosi, Condelezza Rice) and the women looked twenty years older from a mere color change to a natural hair color.    Personally, I've always said that I'll let mine go natural when I hit 60.   But as sixty approaches, I wonder...

For what it's worth, my mom colored her hair forever and when she stopped doing it about the time she hit 60 I think she looked so much better. Just more natural looking.

I think the real question is when do you stop dyeing your hair? A friend of mine once went in for a haircut and was told by the hairdresser that if she started dying her hair she could easily pass for early 30s. This friend was only 24 at the time. I don’t blame her one bit for dyeing her hair ever since. But when do you stop? When does dyeing your hair stop making you look younger and start making you look like you’re tying to look younger?

Of course that leads into a why is younger better discussion.

My mother in law is 58 and my mom is 51, my MIL looks like she is in her late 60's , she is all grey and well she smokes so that doesn't help. My mom gets blonde highlights in her hair , doesn't smoke and looks 40.

Personally I want to do what I can to postpone aging but I am sure I will get to a point where I just let it go.

I say dye it and have fun with it. I have bright orange streaks in my naturally black hair that (I guess) cover up the gray that peeks out. Go fuschia. Or green if that is a color that looks good on you. I don't look good in a gray tee shirt, why would I look good in gray hair?

I will probably dye my hair for years...I don't know for sure. It makes me feel like I have made some effort to look good, even if that effort was three weeks ago and not this morning. I didn't look so tremendous as a young 20's women that I feel I have to hold on to it, maybe that's my problem?!
