Early Wednesdays in Wake
If you're in a year-round school in Wake County that starts up next week, don't forget that the kids get out an hour early on Wednesdays from now on. And on six of those Wednesdays, school will release 2.5 hours early.
This is to give teachers some planning time, officials said. The school board approved it this spring. And traditional calendar schools will start with the new schedule when they go back to school in August. We've had a fair amount of discussion about the whole decision.
The school system has this page up on its Web site with information about the new schedule, child care and transportation options and tips for activities to do with your kids since they're out of school.
The YMCA of the Triangle, probably the largest after-school provider in the Triangle, also has added a program to accommodate the new schedule. They're handing out information about summer camps now and schools next week.
The Wednesdays only program is $47.10 a month for traditional school students and $39.25 for year-round school students. It's cheaper for Y members. The registration fee is $25.
If you're already enrolled in a YMCA After School program Monday through Friday, the extra time on Wednesdays is covered at no extra charge.
Go to www.YMCATriangle.org for details.
Please share if you know of other Wednesday only programs or if you've had to adjust your own schedule for this.
