My 13-year-old son is a high anxiety kid. He stresses about everything. Naturally EOGs rock his world even though he is an honor roll kid and tests above the 90th percentile. He gets a sick stomach, looses sleep, has nightmares, talks in his sleep, sleepwalks, and generally becomes an irritable grouch during testing week. We go out of our way to down play the tests and maintain the status quo. The only thing I do differently during testing week is: I make sure that my son has a physical outlet every day after school for about an hour to burn off some of his anxiety. We usually take the dogs to the park and hike the trails. It is amazing how restorative a brisk walk the sunshine and fresh air can be. If we didn’t walk off his stress everyday during EOGs, I’m pretty sure he would develop and ulcer.
