Explore Mordecai, enjoy music, kickoff kindergarten and more this weekend

Summer is winding down and it seems like weekend activities are gearing up. The Mom2Mom calendar is chock full of fun this weekend.

To the highlights:

Friday

Mordecai Historic Park is offering free tours today from 10 a.m .to 3 p.m. The park near downtown Raleigh includes a collection of historic buildings. I've taken my daughter to a couple of events at this park and it's always a lot of fun. She loves to explore the buildings, especially the chapel where she wants to sit in every pew.

Upscale Resale Consignment Sale opens today and and continues through Saturday in Cary, featuring very fine used children's clothing.

The very fun Trish Miller will delight young kids at her concert tonight at 7 p.m. at the Carroll Howard Johnson Environmental Education Park. My daughter loves her music. Very low-key and cute.

Saturday

The Children's Good News Spectacular offers free entertainment, food and a gospel message at the N.C. Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The La Leche League in Cary is holding its annual fundraiser. A Family, A Fair is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Cary and includes live performances, other entertainment and information sessions.

Ten Thousand Villages in Raleigh offers a Kids Multicultural Day at the store in Cameron Village from noon to 5 p.m. Best for ages 5 to 12.

It's Engineers Day at the Museum of Life and Science in Durham from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Kids can meet and work with engineers and learn that engineering and technology is fun.

Sunday

From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Marbles Kids Museum is helping rising kindergartners get ready for kindergarten with a fun event. They'll be able to board a school bus, stand in a lunch line and participate in other activities.

Next Week

One event to note this week is the orientation meeting Tuesday for dads in Durham who would like to participate in the YMCA's Guides and Princesses program. I go into more detail about this in my Family Outing column this week. But this is a great program for dads to spend time with their kids (and moms get some time for themselves too).

Every Friday, TriangleMom2Mom features fun weekend activities for kids.
