Farewell
A little over a year ago, I wrote a blog post about taking my children to the library and how exhausting and overwhelming it was, with one running one way and the other another way.
For awhile I stopped going if both of my kids were with me, but the other day I went, me being a year wiser and them being a year older, and we had a great time.
I love how far we have come, me, Guillermo and Maya, my daytime crew. And, I love that I have recorded so many moments for them, for me.
I started keeping a journal when Guillermo was born, a ‘Letters to Guillermo’ sort of thing. It was supposed to be my diary of mommyhood, a place for me to write down all of our fun times but often it became a place to apologize for whatever mommy mistake I felt I made and even more so, it became a place to tell my son (who couldn’t read) how much I loved him. I’d get on a kick and write often, and then go for days without thinking about my journal. Then weeks. Then months.
So, I decided to switch to a blog. I thought it would hold me more accountable. And it has. In addition to posting here once a week, I try to post on my personal blog at least a few times a week. I don’t have too many readers, but I know that my parents in Illinois, my father- and sister-in-law in Phoenix and a few faraway friends check it regularly. I love that.
But mostly I love the memories I’m recording. Before I reread a few old blog posts tonight, I had forgotten about the “gun hole” Guillermo made in the “Army vehicle” he created out of a cardboard box one day at our house or that Maya used to call her blanket, or any blanket, ‘laleet.” I can’t wait to let Guillermo and Maya read these posts when they are older.
There’s another part of blogging that I really love and that is the amazing community that sometimes springs up around a site like this one. I frequently call on my mother for parenting advice, but I love that any time I need help, I can post it here and get several responses.
This is my last regular blog post on TriangleMom2Mom.com. But, I won’t be gone entirely. I’ll keep making comments here, hoping to keep the dialogue going. I’d miss you guys too much if I left completely.
Natalie has appeared on Mom2Mom for the last year. Catch up with her at her blog A Day at the Park. And of course, she won't be gone entirely.
