Free in-home nurse vistis for Durham County residents

Hello future moms,

If you haven't heard, a new prorgram called Durham Connects has begun to provide free in-home nurse visits to all new parents of newborns in Durham County. The nurses are trained to address new parent and infant needs and can be a nice compliment to your existing well-baby vistis at the pediatrician. In fact, you'll have 1-2 hours of the nurses time to ask questions, get baby's measurements and discuss any concerns you might have. The goal of the program is to bridge the gap between new parent needs and community resources. This is a universal program for Durham County residents, although it is being rolled out in phases. Currently about half the county's neighborhoods have a nurse assigned by random assignment. The rest of the county will be covered by 2010. For more information about the program or to find out if you are eligible for a visit, go to www.durhamconnects.org.

Best of all, the nurses bring a fabulous new parent welcome bag compliments of Durham Connects filled with diapers, a baby book, bib, thermometer and a gift for mom. All to welcome our newest residents and get them off to the best start possible.

Best regards,
Jeannine Sato
