Fun This Weekend

This week in my Family Outing column in The N&O, I feature a performance over at Common Ground Theatre in Durham.

Kids from the theater's summer camp will perform an adaptation of the story "The Wonderful Life of a Fly Who Couldn't Fly." TAFFY: Transactors for Families, part of the local Transactors Improv group, will open the shows at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., Saturday. (TriangleMom2Mom's own Nancy Pekar will be performing at 1 p.m.) Tickets are $5.

Most of the audience will be made up of the friends and family of the theater students (ages 5 to 11), but this is a fun event for any family. Kids can bark out orders to the improv actors on stage and then imagine the possibilities for themselves as they watch other kids perform. Should be a lot of fun.

Historic Yates Mill Park near Raleigh will have its monthly tours Saturday and Sunday. There will be lots of hands-on activities and the 174-acre park itself is a great place to explore.

And for those who don't mind spiders, Cameron Village Library in Raleigh has a fun event at 2 p.m., Saturday, called "It's Spider-ific!" It features stories and crafts all about spiders.
