Girl dies after getting off school bus
Horrible news out of Raleigh. A six-year-old girl was hit and killed by a car in the North Hills area shortly after she stepped off the school bus Monday afternoon. She attended Green Year Round Elementary School.
The driver was an 83-year-old woman who told police that she heard a "thud," but kept driving down North Hills Drive until she realized she'd hit a child. Witnesses said the woman, who has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, disregarded the bus' working signals and markers.

What a very sad story. It can not ever be emphasized enough: drivers near schools, or school buses, have to be extraordinarily vigilant.
