Grandma, Nana, Grammy, Boppa?

I get a ton of e-mail these days from people trying to give me things - books on parenting, kids books, kids music, new kinds of wipes, computer gadgets.

But I thought this one was kind of cute and funny. Just in time for Grandparent's Day (that's Sept. 7, according to AARP), there's a new book called "You Can Call Me Hoppa!" It's basically like a baby name book except for grandparents, who don't want to go by the standard Grandma or Grammy (which is good enough for my DD).

According to the press release, the author's inspiration is "based on her own experience as a new mom and daughter to first-time grandparents as they set on a challenging quest to find the perfect grandparent names."

So was this a "challenging quest" for your parents or yourself (I know we've got some Grandmas/Nanas/Grammies/Hoppas out there)? Or are Grandma and Grandpa good enough for your family?

We use Grandma and Grandpa for both sets and insert a last name if we need to specify which Grandma or Grandpa. I just have a personal dislike of cutesy names for grandparents. But I think it's becoming more and more common because kids are finding themselves with more and more grandparents. If there's been multiple divorces and remarriages in a family, a kid could have four or five women who are all Grandma. I understand the need to create special names to avoid confusion or hurt feelings over who is the "real" Grandma.
