A Harrell Twas the Night Before Christmas
Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house
The adults were all stirring, especially the spouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care
In hopes that Sarah wouldn't sneak down the stair;
The children were nestled all snug in their beds
While dreams of pricey toys danced through their heads;
With I in my PJ's and Scott oh so tired
We settled down to "some assembly required";
When out on the lawn their arose such a clatter
We sprang from assembling to see what was the matter;
The moon on the breast of the drought stricken grass
Showed a plastic Santa who'd fallen down on his...bum;
When what to our wondering eyes should appear
But a generous neighbor sharing with us a beer;
With a twist of his wrist, so lively and quick,
We knew in a moment this might do the trick;
More rapid then eagles the box of tools came
As we whistled, and shouted and called them by name;
Now, Scissors! Now, pliers! Now nails and a screw!
On, rivet! On drill bit! On epoxy and glue!
A wink of Scott's eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;
We spoke not a word, but kept right at our work,
We finished toy assembly; then turned with a jerk,
And giving a toast as we finished our brew,
We happily deemed our job to be through;
As we climbed into bed, outside was a jingle,
Could it be Santa or maybe Chris Kringle?
We heard him exclaim, even if he wasn't in sight,
Happy Christmas to all and to all a Good Night!
