Hello from the Valley Isle!!

We are 6,000 miles away from the hideous heat and humidity of Chapel Hill, having survived the lloooonnnggg plane fight(s) from RDU to Kahului.

Ironically, it gets harder to fly with Flipper as she ages, not easier. Or, my memory of the past three flights out here has become very selective indeed. She is less inclined to want to sit still for nine or 10 hours. Can you imagine? And more vocal about her displeasure, i.e. whining.

But endless crayoned rainbows, multiple snacks with two bites taken out and a repeat of a violent movie later ... we made it. My sister picked us up and we spent the first night at The Ritz-Carlton.

And so I have a new dream job. I think the Ritz should send me to all of their resorts and let me check in as an anonymous guest and report to them any annoyances I find. Which, being the Ritz, would be very few indeed. Room service. Great beds. Comfy white robes. Gorgeous grounds. Triple infinity pool. ... I could go on, but I won't.

The resort looks out to the ocean and is set back from the cliffs several hundred yards. When they initially broke ground, it was as close to the water as they could get. But the discovery of thousands of bones from an ancient burial site necessitated the shift back. And now the site is protected with small informational signs posted.

Now it is early morning, and the sun is slowly coming up. Coffee is brewing and grocery lists are being written. I try not to think too hard about the BILL at the grocery store. ... Imagine $11 frozen pizzas.

Enough for today.

Leigh Sparacino

Leigh is a TriangleMom2Mom featured blogger, appearing every Monday.

Leigh grew up in Durham, attended college in North Carolina, left the area for an island off the coast of Georgia, the high mountains of Colorado, and her favorite mountains in western North Carolina, before returning to the Triangle eight years ago. She lives near Carrboro with her 4.5-year-old daughter Flipper and two dogs. She is single in marital status only, surrounded by friends, family, and her daughter's very involved and loving father. She works part-time and tries to be as involved as possible in her daughter's school, The Emerson Waldorf School, where Flipper is a kindergartner. She likes wood, glass and other natural materials for toys, loves the principles of Waldorf education and hates plastic. She might be the only person in the world with no TV and who hasn't been to a movie in 15 years, but races to the mailbox every Saturday for the most recent issue of People magazine. In other words, a contradiction. Or just human.

As for the perfect job, hey I think you are on to something. What do you think, Sarah our content editor, can you cover her stay at the Ritz for a week? A small price to pay for our (all the readers) collective vicarious morning coffee looking our over the ocean cliffs of Kahului. As long as I'm fantasizing, I think you should post scenic pictures of Flipper in the bay there.

I think Leigh is on to something. But what the Ritz really needs is a large group of people - moms from the Triangle area would be best for a variety of obvious reasons - to go out there and really get a feel for all that the resort has to offer. Are the beach chairs really comfortable? Is the food really gourmet? Are the beds really all soft and comfortable? It's probably going to take at least a week or so.

As far as mom2mom funding it, unlikely.

Yes, a staff of moms to thoroughly analyze the ambience is definitely needed. Who volunteers to do the fundraising?
