How to get baby to drink water/ juice?
My daughter is 9 months old and will not drink water or juice. She doesn't even like taking a bottle anymore- she just breastfeeds. It's starting to get hot, and I'd like to get her to drink some fluids! She doesn't even want to take breastmilk from a bottle or sippy cup. I've tried water in a bottle, sippy cup, regular cup, with a straw, nothing. She will maybe take a sip and then make a face and doesn't want it. I've tried different kinds of juices, diluted juice with water, and I've tried all these things at room temperature, out of the refridgerator, and warmed up. Nothing is working! Any advice?

Have you tried frozen?
My daughter never even took a bottle and wasn't crazy about sippy cups either.
I did have some success with those mesh bag things (like this but I think I used a different brand from Babies R Us - http://www.babysafefeeder.com/home10.htm). I'd fill it with an ice cube, frozen juice or fruit (which has a lot of water in it).
We also would get applesauce in tubes - (http://www.walnutacres.com/snack_overview.php - available at whole foods) and freeze them.
It's messy, but it might work!
i wouldn't really worry about it yet. at 9 months she doesn't need anything but breastmilk even in the summer months.
the mesh safefeeders that Sarah mentioned are pretty neat. my little ones loved breastmilk "popsicles" when they were teething. i just froze it in ice cube trays and put it in the mesh feeder.
my youngest never took a bottle at all. she started using a sippy cup occasionally at about a year old.

Two of my three babies were non bottle drinkers much to my dismay. My daughter was the worst, I had to leave her with a sitter to work ten hours/week and she wouldn't drink from anything but a spoon!!!! The wonderful babysitter (experienced Mexican mom!) finally worked her up from a spoon of breastmilk to dribbling from a straw into her mouth (like an eyedropper!) to a cup. However most of my kids never wanted any of that stuff if I was within smelling distance.
I'm sure it's true she doesn't NEED anything else but at some point you may want to leave her for more than 45 minutes! I wonder if she might take to solids first and then you can gradually water them down? it's amazing how quickly they can associate something like "drinking from something that's not mom means mom's going for a pedicure" and then we create a kind of neurotic cycle with them where we stress each other out. Respite care is mandatory during these times I think. good luck!
We had success in feeding my daughter water with a spoon from a bowl. She loved it - she ate it with the enthusiasm of a kid eating ice cream! I think it was fun for her, and it helped her to develop a taste for water, which she now drinks all the time. Gradually, she moved from the spoon to the cup - by then, she was familiar enough with the taste so she was happy with the cup.
good luck!
She may not like the taste of juice or water. Water is bland and juices can be strong - especially if she's used to breast milk.
My oldest son didn't like juice until he was well over a year old.
I'd wait a little while and try again.
Good luck!
I agree with keira. If I remember correctly 80% of breastmilk is water. (give or take) Keep up on YOUR water though :-)

My baby always wants to play with my water bottle (that was cold). She likes the feeling of the cold and the water moving in it and the crunch sound the bottle makes when you squeeze it. I would offer a little to her. It is special I guess for her because it is mamma's.She always takes it from me and wants a drink. When we go to restaurants we hold the end of the straw where there some water in the end or juice or milk and that is how she learned to use a straw. She was a breastfeeding baby and never took to a bottle. Rarely uses sippy cups but likes straws in the cup. I got them at Walmart.Approx.$ 2.50 for 4.
They seem to come around to other drinks soon enough,it takes a little time. Just continue your breastmilk for as long as you feel comfortable with it. It is the best thing for the baby and has many benefits for you as well. My 1st was 6months and started getting teeth and had thrush so I stopped, of course she took a bottle as well. My 2nd only breastfeeds and even though she has 3 teeth, we continue at 14 months. If the baby seems to "bite" that means they are finished and just playing so take them off.
My child still makes faces with real applesauce. I have never used the mesh thingy. I never had a need for it and am kind of weary of it, but if it works use it I guess. Juices and fruits are an aquired taste. I would suppose most children (and their parents) go through this "problem" of not wanting the new tastes.
I just suggest to keep trying what your doing, sounds like you got it covered, just give it time.

I think it is okay if you can breastfeed her only. It is not recommended to force baby to drink water until she is an year old. After an year when she eats do not force her to try different things. After first birthday, when she starts eating solids and drinking whole milk, you would like her to drink as much water as she likes.

I agree that breastmilk is all she needs. My son will not drink from a bottle and doesn't know how to use a cup yet. He frequently reaches for my water cup so I gave him a sip and discovered he likes water. Every now and then I give him some water using a syringe. The syringe is nice because he just gets a little squirt and gets more into his mouth than the cup.
I used to use the mesh thingies to, but my sister let me know to be careful with them. She said they have a tendency to collect more dirt and bacteria similar to the way a rag cleans up a table. I would just be careful using these, as it kind of made sense to me.

I was told breast feeding is the best way to keep yourself and the baby fit.The mesh thingy does collect all the dust around and some babies are sensitive to it.I think its a little hygiene thing we have to be careful with. But as they grow older they can get used to drinking with the cups.

Well when we had our first child, they said that breastfeeding was great to keep the child healthy, fit, and no allergies later on in life. I always thought around 12 months, the baby will start drinking more milk, water, and juice. I am sure the baby in a few months will start drinking a lot more.
I just spoke with my cousin who just had a baby, and she said the same thing, that you stop breastfeeding at 12 months, and the baby will start drinking from a sippy cup milk, water, and juice.
I would encourage her daddy or someone to try it with her when you are not around. That way she doesn't have another option! :)
