I Just Wanted To Mop The Floor
It is hard enough for me to summon the energy to mop the floor in the first place. Mopping is definitely one of my least favorite chores. It is right up there with laundry, dishes, and, well, most other forms of housework. When I finally get the gumption to tackle the sticks, slicks and spills that have cemented themselves to my kitchen floor, I only hope for a bit of cooperation. I need cooperation from the mop, the extra strength cleaning, and my back.
More than anything else, I need cooperation from the girls. In order to mop the floor, I need them out
of the kitchen. Unfortunately, out of the kitchen means out of my sight. As every parent knows, out of sight may mean out of mind, but it definitely doesn’t mean out of trouble. This Sunday was the perfect example. While I was mopping and scrubbing, Jaley found the Band-Aids and the markers. If this were a game, I would score one point for a clean kitchen floor, but be deducted two points for the fun (AKA mess) Jaley created on herself and in the playroom.
I think I learned my lesson. Housework is actually a losing game. Or better said by Erma Bombeck, “Housework is a treadmill from futility to oblivion with stop-offs at tedium and counter productivity.”
Until the Board of Health comes knocking on my door, I may just get off the housework treadmill.

I hate housework too. But I LOVE Erma Bombeck. My grandmother loved Erma. I think her works may be more timeless than Shakespeare...who doesn't seem so timeless these days.
