I want to stay at home but can't =(

I have two kids and one on the way. I want to stay at home with my babies so bad but our household income won't allow it at this point. Has anyone else been through this? Do you know of any business ideas I could do from home?

Is it possible for you to keep someone else's child at home with yours? It doesn't pay a fortune, but when you deduct out daycare expenses for your other kids...If you're a single mom, what I'm about to suggest probably won't work for you, but my husband and I tagged team in the begining. I just couldn't bear to leave my baby, so I kept another child during the day, and then a couple of nights a week I went out to an evening job while my husband stayed with her. Even waiting tables 3-4 nights a week can be lucrative if there are no child care costs deducted out, and maybe the dad wouldn't mind staying with them wince they may be sleeping most of that time anyway. I don't know the details of your situation, but if you get crafty enough, you can always sell things online-ebay- or do some other stay at home sales business. I don't know how much support you have from dad or other family.........but I do know that where there's a will, there's a way!!

Do you have any special skills?

I've worked from home as a freelance translator (Spanish) for the last 7 years. For a while I was also doing freelance writing. I know a mom who enjoys baking and photography, so she started an at-home business taking children's portraits in her home and making custom birthday cakes for kids. I know of other moms who sell Mary Kay, Avon or Tastefully Simple. What about medical transcription?

I just wanted to say I'm sorry and understand. I stayed home with my kids for a long time but the day I went to work was very sad. My kids are grown now but I remember it like it was yesterday. I hope you find a way to stay with them.

There are a number of stay at home type jobs out there. If you put in a lot of the leg work, you should be able to find one that works for your family. When my kids were small, I did a lot of mystery shopping and now I do freelance writing.

Here is a great website about all different types of work at home jobs - www.wahm.com - Be sure the check out the forums and the classifieds, both have lots of ideas.

Do you write? If so, check out www.demandstudios.com It is a freelance writing company that pays $15 per 400 word article. They pay weekly and through paypal. If you write quickly and choose articles that you don't need to do much research, you can make $30 an hour doing it.

If writing is a gift of yours, let me know and I can share a few other resources that I have.

I stay at home with my 1.5 yr old by doing tupperware. It's a low start up fee and it's great meeting new people.

I know what you're going through. My husband and I also looked at this when I was pregnant. Financially it didn't make sense for me to stay at home with our child, but I wanted to. Then we started researching daycare costs. That alone made our decision for us.
I now work at home a few hours a day, 2 hours at the most, depending on what I want to accomplish. You can check it out at http://www.themomteam.com/KChadburn if you're interested. It certainly changed my life and helped me to be at home and raise our son, and I'm greatful. Plus, the best part is I don't have to go out and do parties or sell anything.

I got thrown into stay-at-home momhood when I lost my job 2 weeks before Christmas last year. I made more than my husband and I truly had no idea what we were going to do. I looked everywhere and then I was goofing around on the computer and came across an ad about working from home. I can't believe I clicked on it. I can't believe I entered my phone number. I can't believe I answered my phone when someone called from Texas. AND, I can't believe I actually agreed to listen to their presentation without knowing what it really was all about. I'm THE most skeptical person on Earth. Well, I really liked what I heard. No selling, no buying inventory (especially stuff I couldn't and wouldn't even buy at the time like jewelry, makeup, candles....now I have $ but still don't buy that stuff). I thought it was like Amway and only the top people make all the money. I was so wrong. It's not MLM at all, thank goodness! I do not ever want to leave my kids again. Of course, before you know it they'll both be in school (my son's only 2, but time flies!). So, I'm enjoying every minute of them while I'm working with my computer and my phone and I'm setting appointments, setting up accounts, helping others do the same. I just wish I learned about it when my daughter was born 6 years ago! Take a step and listen in-it costs you 45 minutes. If it makes as much sense to you as it did to me, it'll cost all of $29. I also wanted to work, make money, have fle xibility and do it on my own time.  I joined Stella & Dot.  It is the modern girl's trunk show.  If you love jewelry than you will love this company! It is a new company, and so being a founding member was important to me.  The start up was $199 + $350 worth of free jewelry to start your business.  I could go on and on...if you want to learn more call or email me and I would be happy to tell you more!

Lots of great suggestions here. I've been a WAHM for nearly all of my 14 years of motherhood. There are many tried-and-true professions for SAHMs to explore -- freelance writing (especially now, with blogging all the rage), medical transcription, virtual assistants, web design/development, etc.

Use the Internet to learn what other moms are doing -- we're quite a creative bunch! :)

Good luck!

I was in the same position when I was preg with my first. What we did was basically set up a budget and stick to it. We cancelled any and all unnecessary subscriptions, cable and bought used clothes, didn't eat out, etc. Somehow (with prayer) it worked. I didn't care about all of that stuff anyways. Staying home was more important to me than stuff.

I had to learn to be creative and frugal, but there are ways to stay home. It's challenging, but you can do it! It won't last forever and you might be surprised at how far you can stretch a dollar with a little imagination.

There are TONS of websites for frugal moms out there.

I commend you for desiring to be a stay at home mom! Best of luck to you!

One of your best shots at the moment is to find an internet job. I have good news for you, the internet is emerging every day with new development possibilities giving everybody a chance. Sure you need to get involved in online working and you have to be able to build on that. From my experience I can only tell you that I wouldn't quit my online job, the only formality I have to comply with is a time clock software, the rest is up to me.

I sell skin care and cosmetics from my home. Start up is $110 and no inventory requirements. The products are of very high quality and are pricey, but for folks who care about what they put on and in their body... once they use it, the always say the product is worth the price. All products are plant-based, no artificial fragrances, dyes, animal products, pthlatales or parabens.

When my wife wanted to stay at home, the economy was much better. Now as a result of the recession, she's had to find a part time job since my income has been reduced. You do what you have to do for your family.
