I'm pregnant. Are you?

I'm pregnant.

I'm due with our second child in early September. And, as I've repeated to the grandparents, this is it. No more.

It's been a long and not entirely easy 16 weeks, but I'm lucky and thankful that the road to get to this point was not difficult for me.

Except for the nausea, extreme exhaustion and constant hunger, things have gone pretty smoothly. My four-year-old seems thrilled. She even drew a picture of me with a giant belly and a baby inside and shared a cookie with me so I could eat it "for the baby."

Almost to the month, she'll be the exact same age I was when my baby sister (now a mom herself) was born. I remember the ride when we were taking her home from the hospital. I sat in the back with her and stared at the little person strapped into her seat.

I vividly remember thinking: "Things are going to change."

I was right.

So I'm calling on all you pregnant women out there to out yourselves. Let's get a conversation going about what it's like to be pregnant in the Triangle. Frankly, I'm not looking forward to being nine months pregnant in August.

I'll be posting at least once a week about my little adventure. So check back and share your own stories.

OK .. now where are my snacks ...

Congratulations! I can't wait to live vicariously through your pregnancy (while still sleeping on my own stomach, thank you). Keep us updated!

Congratulations! I'm 16 1/2 weeks pregnant and expect to deliver by scheduled c-section at the end of August. We're having the "big ultrasound" next week. I have 2 sons, ages 4 and almost 6. They seem to think this baby is another boy.

In the first trimester I felt more nauseous than I've ever felt before in previous pregnancies. I would have one good day followed by a miserable day. Now I don't feel nauseous but I feel HUGE. My belly popped out early, and my waistline completely disappeared. My family and I went hiking at Umstead Park last weekend and I realized I'm very unwieldy. I'm very happy, though. I'm so excited about this baby. We're 95% sure it's the last one...the reason I don't say 100% is because we thought we were 100% done after baby #2 and here we are. Our families and friends were very surprised about this pregnancy.

Have you felt the baby move? I've been feeling the baby's flutters for the last 2 weeks. It's a magical time and I'm trying to enjoy every second.

Good luck, Sarah!

Thank you guys! I'm excited, though at 3 a.m. this morning when I couldn't figure out how to sleep comfortably, not so much ...

We're not going to find out the sex. We did with my daughter and we were with this one. Then I started thinking about how it would be kind of nice to have the surprise. And I think my husband was thinking the same thing because on the way to the last doctor's appointment he said he didn't think we should find out. And I agreed. If it's a boy and the Grandmas think he's wearing too much pink, they'll take care of that. Otherwise we pretty much have everything we need.

mami2jandc - when you posted the other week about how far along you were, I couldn't believe it because we're basically at the stage. I'm 16 1/2 weeks pregnant and will have a scheduled c-section in early September. It's a crazy coincidence!

I was much more sick with my daughter ... throwing up nearly every morning from week 7 to week 16, then every three days or so through week 20. Haven't had that problem this time around, but I still was really nauseous in the first trimester and absolutely exhausted. Things are much better now, except for the insomnia, occasional back pain and I am starting to feel huge.

I have started to feel some sensations but it's of the I think that's the baby, but not quite sure variety. We'll be doing the big ultrasound next week too.

How strange that we're due so close together. I'm assuming my scheduled c-section will be at the end of August because my due date is September 2nd and my last c-section was scheduled a week before my due date.

You have a lot of restraint not finding out the gender! I can't wait!!! I really want to start calling the baby by his/her name. I've had the boy name picked out for a while and we just decided on a girl's name a few days ago (still thinking of middle names, though). Either way I'll need to do a lot of shopping because, since we thought we were done after #2, we got rid of a lot of stuff.

This morning I was cutting vegetables and pot roast to throw into the crock pot for our dinner, and I got so winded. Out of breath from cutting vegetables! I had to go grab a chair so I could continue peeling potatoes. My sluggishness is really showing now.

Sarah, do you have names picked out?

slindenf's picture
by slindenf 12 mon. ago.

I'll probably be regretting the choice as the weeks wear on. But I do think it's going to save me some money. If it's a boy and I found out, I'd be spending like crazy at all these consignment sales I've been going too. BTW ... the Triangle Twins/Triplets consignment sale at the fairgrounds on Saturday has maternity clothes if you need some. I'll probably check it out.

We haven't even started on the names. Like with the first, we're only using family names. So that limits the choices especially when many of our families' names are super ethnic - Festus, for example. We have family trees from both sides of the family that go way back and so we'll pick our names from there. We had a boy's name picked out the first time around, but my sister took it when she named her son last year. It was Nathan. I'd be mad at her, but she had no idea.

I'm due Sept. 5 and my doctor said that he'd schedule one the week before. He only delivers babies on Thursdays so if we want to do it with him, it would be 9/3. I was kind of hoping for before Sept. 1 because kindergarten cutoff is 9/1 and if this one is ready, I'd like that choice (am I crazy for thinking that?). But I also know that a few extra days in the womb can be a big difference. So we'll go with whatever the doctor says.

I get winded sometimes reading my daughter a book.

Thanks for the tip about the twins/triplets consignment sale. I'm doing pretty well with maternity clothes right now...I've been out shopping a couple of times.

I'm actually trying my best to stay away from family names. I was named after my aunt (first AND middle name) and I always wanted my children to have "original" names. Not too kooky, but not too common either. Since I'm Latina and my husband is Portuguese, we also want the name to translate well across languages. I'm happy with the choices we've made (for now!). I hope we stick with them and don't change our minds before the birth.

I'm also hoping to deliver before September 1st.  Not because of the kindergarten cut-off (I homeschool).  I'd just like to get back into my older sons' routines sooner...my younger son receives speech therapy through the public school and I don't want him to miss too many sessions.

Completely different experience on the names here. My husband and I are both named after family members and we both really liked that tie to our past. And on the names ... you never know what's going to happen. A friend just had a baby and she had her name all picked out but when the baby arrived on Friday, she decided the name was completely wrong for her. So they had to start from scratch.

Stay home with your little one if at all possible. The experiences and growth your child will get from not being raised by someone else for the majority of their days will be a huge plus for them. They grow so quickly.

Congratulations!

Hi Sarah, This is your friend Vickie whom you met at the Working Women's forum last year. Congrats on the pregnancy! Yes, I am now 11 weeks myself with our third child. It was not planned at all. We were done or so we thought and happy with our 2 girls! I have been more tired with this baby from my other 2. No one can ever get used to that nasty nausea! I will be soon over that stage and can't wait. i am due in October. My first was born in August. Just make sure to stay near an AC! Just as our baby will be 4 in May, up pops another! No break away from childcare as we were cheering about putting that money aside when she graduated from daycare! We pray that it is a boy this time for my husband's sake! Keep us posted as well!

Thanks! And hi Vickie! I remember you! Congratulations yourself! I've been hearing about a lot of surprise pregnancies lately.

And definitely on the AC. My friend's two kids were born in September and she told me she basically spent those entire summers just standing in the pool trying to stay cool though I'm not too keen about hanging out in a bathing suit at nine months pregnant.

This is wonderful news! Congratulations Sarah! Looks like you'll have a Virgo baby... I speak from experience that being a Virgo has way more pros than cons! (I'll selfishly hope for a Sept. 4 arrival date. :)

My daughter was two and a half when I was in my last month of pregnancy with my son. I remember taking her to the mall so I could do Christmas shopping. (With my due date of January 8, I figured I should get it done before Thanksgiving.) Haley and I went to a Chinese restaurant. She behaved perfectly with all the appropriate pleases and thank yous to the waitress. She ate with the most delightful manners.

I remember thinking, "I just got this one civilized....what am I doing???"

Sarah,
I wanted to come back to this post because when I saw this, I was newly pregnant, and we were being very cautious since we had had two miscarriages last year. I am happy to say that I am pregnant, too and am due around November 13th. So, I'm 40, not sleeping well, exhausted, but oh so excited now.

That's so exciting! Congratulations Leigh! I know all about exhaustion ... Are you going to find out what you're having?
