Local programs fight child obesity
I just wanted to highlight this story, which was in the paper this week. It lists some local programs for kids who might be fighting obesity.
We're worse off here in North Carolina than the rest of the nation. Duke Health has some interesting statistics and tips on the subject.
And here are those local programs that can help kids fight the fat.
Hi5 Fitness
Classes meet Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. $20 registration. $99 for six sessions. 900-7579.
WakeMed Energize
Family-based nutrition and exercise program for kids at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. $20 fee. Must be referred by a pediatrican. 350-7584.

Duke Children's Hospital Healthy Lifestyles

UNC School of Medicine Pediatric Cardiology program

Wake County WIC Ready to Change Program
Nutrition and exercise classes for WIC participants; also available to non-income eligible children between 1 to 5 years. 250-4732
Boys & Girls Clubs
Triple Play after school program intedned to promote healthy and active lifestyle choices. $7.50 fee to join the Boys & Girls Clubs. 834-6282.
Wake Teen Be Fit Get Moving
Offers exercise and nutrition classes to 30 youths whose body mass index is in the 85th percentile or higher. 828-0035.
