Looking for Gift Ideas
A girlfriend of mine and I were talking yesterday about Christmas shopping for our kids, and how when they were much younger you could get that "wow" factor when they come down Christmas morning with a $25 doll house. What do you do as your kids get older? I know preteens and teens are into electronics, gift cards, and such ....but gift cards aren't "fun" on Christmas morning. Without breaking the bank, what are some great gifts for preteens this year? What are you all getting for your older kids??

That's a tough one. I know Diane is having her kids send her an e-mail with their wishes hyperlinked so she knows exactly what they want. You know, when I was that age, I always loved getting gift certificates (really homemade ones from my mom) because it meant that I'd get to go the mall (yeah ... I was your average teenager).
I have a niece who is a freshman in college. She loves doing puzzles so a couple times we tracked down really unusual puzzles and she seemed to like those ... maybe something related to something they enjoy, but they've never seen/heard of before? There's always something online.
I don't know ... probably not much help.
I know that my daughter this year was a little harder to buy for. She's in that stage between little girl and teen...not really into toys anymore, but not into the teen stuff yet. She does love crafts, so I got her some creative kits to make things with.
What about lessons of some sort. If your kids have interests, say in art or music, you could surprise them with a gift certificate to some classes. I'm a homeschool mom, so educational gifts are my favorite to buy.
Hmmm.....I know that no matter how old boys are, they ALWAYS like playing with remote control things. Radio Shack has those mini little remote control cars and my brothers (who are in their twenties) played with those things for hours, chasing the cat around. :)
Good luck!

gift cards and money never seems to be popular for younger children... i however, love them!
We ended up getting my 13 yr old daughter a "Flip". It's a little handheld camcorder she can make movies with. You can store up to an hour at a time before having to download, and the program is so incredibly simple to email, edit and put movies with music...she has had more fun with this. She never asked for one, or even knew what it was, it was a complete gamble, but I can't tell you how cool it is. She has had so much fun with it!
Great idea for next year!
I was totally stuck on what to get my 8 yr old niece this year... I ended up giving her money, which unfortunately she really did not care for. I guess I'll just make it up to her next year
