Looking for Pediatrician who supports alternative vaccination schedule

Hello,

I am new to the area and am having a terrible time finding a pediatrician who will support an alternative vaccine schedule. Everyone recommends Dr Ramsdell, but she is not taking any new clients. Is there anyone else out there in the triangle area who does an alternative vaccination schedule and who doesn't see Dr Ramsdell???? If so, who do you see????

Thanks!
Teresa

You would have to call and confirm this, but I go to Dr. Bodenstine at Oberlin Rd Pediatrics, and would be willing to bet he would work with you. When my last baby was born 7 years ago, I chased away the people at the hospital who were trying to vaccinate her the first day she was born. My pediatrician at the time said it was absolutely no big deal, she'd just be on a different schedule, and although that particular doctor is practicing somewhere else now, I find Dr. Bodenstine to be similar in his ability to work with parents and their wishes. We absolutely love him, and I can't imagine a more caring or agreeable pediatrician when it comes to parental instincts overruling convential practices. I'm personally all for vaccines, but not at the rate they were trying to throw them at us.

My baby is four months old and Dr. Mack from Oberlin Pediatrics also ageed to a flexible vaccine schedule. I ended up choosing the traditional schedule but she was willing to work with me. I am really happy with her care. Check them out: http://www.oberlinroadpediatrics.com/

When you find someone, please post it here, and let us know. I went to a vet today to vaccinate my puppy and the vet was more than willing to accommodate me with an alternative vaccination schedule. Ten years ago, it was IMPOSSIBLE to find a vet to work with a more reasonable vaccination schedule. Puppies can be equally healthy, (more healthy many would argue) with a less stressful regimen of unnecessary shots. Hopefully, pediatricians have come as far as the veterinarians have.

My children are 15 and 11. I started with Dr. K (Knudsen) who used to be at Oberlin Peds. He is now with Growing Child. He has ALWAYS been supportive of my decisions re: vaccination.

Also, I have heard that Dr. Young with Cary Healthcare Associates is very good and flexible in her thinking. I am considering changing to their since it's closer to home. http://www.caryhealthcareassociates.com/

Yes! Dr. Kundsen! That is who we started out with too! But when he moved we couldn't follow him due to health insurance but we loved him! We REALLY love Bodenstine too though!

I have been practicing pediatric acupuncture and naturopathy in Berkeley for 25 years. During that time a number of MD pediatricians have come to my attention as being more open to working with alternative approaches. Sometimes they stay the course, sometimes they become more strict about what they will allow their patients to do or not do (eg. vaccinations, etc). I cannot recommend particular physicians to the public but I can suggest physician referrals to my own clients. I have to say, though, that their numbers have decreased over the years.

I see somebody already mentioned Dr. Mike Knudsen at Growing Child Peds--we go to him and love it. He's never pushed vaccinations on us (we want to wait until our daughter is school-aged) and been very helpful and supportive of our decision.

Yes, we saw him when he was at Oberlin Rd. Pediatrics. He was our first pediatrician, and we absolutely adored him. We couldn't follow him because of logistics and insurance, and we're very happy with Dr. Bodenstine. But Knudsen is great! I'm not much on some of the "modern" parenting techniques, and he was always supportive of our feelings.

I live in the southwest suburbs of Chicago and I am looking for a pediatrician that is open to an alternative vaccination schedule. A vaccination at birth is just too early and I believe there are too many vaccines given all together. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks for your help!
