Major Crib Recall

About 400,000 Simplicity drop side cribs were recalled Thursday because they pose a suffocation risk, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced. Read more about it here.

The crib's plastic hardware can break or deform, causing the drop side to detach. When the drop side detaches, the commission says, it creates a space where the child can become entrapped. An eight-month-old child died in Texas after being trapped and suffocating, the commission said. And there have been another 25 incidents where the drop side has detached from the crib. There was an earlier recall in September 2007 that also involved Simplicity cribs. Click here for information about other Simplicity recalls.

The cribs were sold at department stores, children's stores and mass merchandisers from January 2005 through June 2009 for between $150 and $300. If you have a crib, you should return it to the place of purchase for a refund, replacement or store credit.
