Where should I look for an AFFORDABLE maternity swimming suit? I can't believe some of these prices...I've looked at Target but they usually only have one style. Are there any other places to check out? Thanks!
If you are looking for affordable swimsuits, then your best bet is Target, maybe Kohl's, Motherhood. You won't get a lot of options, and the material probably will not hold up the entire summer, so you may need to buy more than one.
If you spend a bit more, then you will get a better suit, that will give you more support, more stylish, and comfort. The suit will probably will hold up better the entire summer. I would suggest checking out the local boutiques like Belly Blossom and Cravings. You can also check out Mimi Maternity. These suits will be in the mid-point range.
Thank you! I will take a look at stores you mentioned. Also, this weekend I noticed that both Old Navy and Gap have fairly decent styles online with low shipping costs. Does anyone have any experience with swimsuits from these two stores?
Hey - I was just checking on Land's End for a bathing suit for myself and saw they had maternity suits. Pretty simple but the quality is always great. I still have one of their suits from eight years ago.
Honestly, with the local pools opening Memorial Weekend, you have, at best, four weeks until you due date. Isn't it nine weeks from right now - Motherhood Maternity has many options that are cute and could get you through the weeks ahead. Have fun! Warmly,
p.s. you had mentioned 'affordable options' - I'm just being practical too. And this may help anyone with say a late August due date ;) with these prices you can get a couple to switch out. Warmly,
Very good point, Carolina_Mama! I'm spoiled, given that my in-laws live on Topsail Beach and we are up there quite a lot once the weather turns even the slightest bit warm.
My guess is I'd get 4, maybe 6 weeks of wear out of it at the most, so picking an option that might not hold up for 10+ years would be just fine with me. I've taken that approach on most of my maternity clothes, why not do the same with the swimsuit?
Besides, is it just wishful hoping to think I'll be back in last year's bathing suit within a month of her birth? :)
I bought a suit 2 years ago from target.com (much more selection than in store) and it held up great. In fact, I'll be using it again this year! I also bought an expensive suit from Mimi, and to be fair, it is more flattering and looks like new. :)
I bought a maternity tankini from Old Navy online last year for about $30 I think, wore it all summer until I had my daughter in July (still wore it afterward, too!). I will also be wearing it this summer since I'm pregnant again. It was so comfortable and I loved it. It also showed off my newly blossoming bossoms so that was a plus, too. Old Navy has fabulous maternity stuff for cheaper than anywhere else I've seen (even Target) and the quality is the same as their other lines.
Why don't you search online? You'll get more selection and price ranges. Froogle compares lots of bathing suits. But I still think it's important that you consider what kind of style of bathing suit to get. http://www.howvids.com/Fashion/Choosing_a_Maternity_Bathing_Suit.ad2
This video helped me pick what style suited me best. Hope is helps you.
I got mine when pregnant with DS 3 years ago at the Motherhood outlet in Smithfield. Reasonably priced. This eyar, we've actually got a pool, so I needed an extra one for when that one's drying out. I just went to the REGULAR section in Walmart & bought seperate tankini pieces in larger than normal sizes.
The maternity swimsuits at Motherhood are all pretty much in the $30-40 range, so not quite as cheap as Target, but not unreasonable. I haven't seen the ones from Kohl's. I think it just depends what you're looking for and what styles you like. Old Navy seems like they have mostly solid colors, and they have separates so you can mix and match sizes, which can be helpful. Motherhood has something similar, but then they also have some really cute prints. I have the paisley one from this page and it looks great! :) http://www.motherhood.com/maternity/swimsuits.asp
I actually had this problem this summer and let me just say that my chest is way too big to fit into any of the Target, Motherhood suits, etc. They don't give me enough support either. It's a problem even when I'm not pregnant. So what I ended up doing was getting a tankini from Land's End that was several sizes bigger than my usual and it all fits. Plus it had a wire bra in it so I had some support as well. It still fits now at about eight months. It might not last for the next two months but it will take me most of the way.

I got mine at http://TummyStyle.com when I was pregnant last year. They have a cute stretchy one piece suit called Prego Maternity Texture Heart Swimsuit at http://tummystyle.com/products/Prego-Maternity-Texture-Heart-Swimsuit~82... . It costs $48 and I wore it all through my pregnancy and passed along to a friend afterwards.
