Meet Chelsea!

Every Monday, we feature a local mom on TriangleMom2Mom.

For the past three weeks leading up to the Race for the Cure on June 14, we've featured local moms who have survived breast cancer. Also read about Christine and Patti.

Today, we hear from Chelsea Gibbs.

Mom2Mom: Tell us about yourself.

Chelsea: My husband Ray and I have one daughter, Kiran, who's 3 years old and very smart. I'm a stay at home mom and live in Apex. I am a 12-year, 1-day and 9-month, two-time breast cancer survivor. I was diagnosed the first time at 25. It was quite a shock to be told I had breast cancer at that age. The second time was still a shock, but I was in such a different place that time around. I was educated about the disease and the diagnosis and had such great resources at my disposal, including my "breast friends" and Susan G. Komen For the Cure, NC Triangle affiliate.

Mom2Mom: What's your favorite family place in the Triangle and why?

Chelsea: Believe it or not, the Farmer's Market. We love to eat and my husband is a great cook. He and Kiran have a garden and she loves to sample the food and smell the herbs.

Mom2Mom: What's your favorite place for yourself in the Triangle and why?

Chelsea: My gym because it allows me to dance. I take a class there and, besides the great exercise, it gives me free time and I feel fantastic after I'm done.

Mom2Mom: What's your favorite ritual with your daughter?

Chelsea: It has to be putting her to bed at night. After her father reads to her, we sit in her rocking chair, share her events of the day and then sing two songs. Even at 3, it's still the best snuggle time.

Mom2Mom: What did you eat last night? Can you share the recipe?

Chelsea: We had stuffed shells and actually the recipe was on the back of the pasta box. Not very original. :-)

Mom2Mom: Care to share your guilty pleasure?

Chelsea: A glass of wine at home after a long day. And when I'm in the car, I like to play the music loud. :-)
