Meet Graciela
Every Monday, TriangleMom2Mom features a local mom. E-mail me if you would like to be featured or know someone we should feature.
Today, we hear from Graciela Aires Rust, who I met at the Mom2Mom launch party last month.
Mom2Mom: Tell us about yourself.
Graciela: I was born in Misiones, a province of Argentina. I grew up in Buenos Aires, the capital, and
then I moved to the U.S. where I met my husband and started a family. I graduated in economic science. I have a post degree in business and I trained in management for two years in South Carolina, then I moved to North Carolina.
I used to be a business executive who always dressed in suits and high heels with a cellular phone in one ear and a computer in my other hand, until I married. Then, I decided to study and to work in different organizations as a volunteer. Then, just a short time later, my new occupation was to have a safe pregnancy. I really prioritized this moment in my life. I took all the courses that I could like yoga for pregnant women, meditation, classes of pre-childbirth, etc.
I really enjoyed my pregnancy. Soon I gave birth to my daughter in a natural delivery without anesthesia, along with the presence of my husband and my doula. It was a wonderful experience. But then soon came the changes.
To be at home and to nourish my baby was a pleasure, but simultaneously a little bit trapped for a woman like me. Sometimes I used to call my friend Polly and say, "I feel that I am no more than a milk supplier." She said to me, "Graciela, be patient, time passes fast, enjoy it." And yes, it does pass quickly. So I am very happy that I could breastfeed my baby for a long time.
That is a phase that I will always remember when I look back and I see that my baby is already a toddler and she is so adorable. I say to myself, "I am glad that I am able to stay by her side as much as I do."
Currently I work part-time with my husband. I also teach Belly Dance classes. This is so fascinating because my students and I, besides working out, have a lot of fun. E-mail me if you are interested in the class.
As a Latino mother, I saw the necessity to organize a group of Latino mothers in the Triangle. So I started a group called "Mamas Latinas del Triangulo" where we nurture the friendship to share information and mainly to enjoy and speak in Spanish to our children. Usually we meet in public places. It is a group that began in January and we continue to learn and grow. If you're interested, contact the group by sending an e-mail here.
Mom2Mom: What's your favorite family place in the Triangle?
Graciela: Our favorite place to go with family is the new Marbles Kids Museum because there is something for everyone. We have a chance to relive our childhood and play on a par with our daughter.
Mom2Mom: What is your favorite place for yourself in the Triangle?
Graciela: I like to go to Barnes & Noble to read books, shop, drink coffee, relax and talk to friends.
Mom2Mom: What is your favorite ritual with your kid?
Graciela: I like to rock my daughter to sleep. It enchants me to invent a song and whisper it in her ear while I caress her hair and to see when she has fallen asleep.
Mom2Mom: What did you eat last night? Can you share the recipe?
Graciela: Tuna cooked on a grill with rosemary and chick pea salad. It is very simple. Cut the tuna in small squares and stick a branch of rosemary through the tuna. Put a little olive oil on them and pepper and cook them in a grill for 10 minutes. The chick pea salad also is very simple. You can buy organic dry chick peas and steam them and set aside. Once cold, add yellow, red and green peppers, lemon and salt to taste. And ready!
Mom2Mom: Care to share your guilty pleasure?
Graciela: I love going to North Hills shopping center to sit in one of the armchairs of Lee Spa Nails and take one session of signature pedicure, which includes massage, exfoliation and detox aside from the care of the nails. I love it and I go often. When they finish with you, you feel that your feet are walking on clouds.
