mom in transition

Hi, everybody,

I'm the mom of a terrific 18-year-old daughter who's about to graduate from high school (Enloe) and head off to college (UNC-Asheville.) So at my house, it's all about transitions these days, for her, for me, for my husband.

I'm so proud of her and the person she has become ... and excited to see where her journey leads. But, ohmygosh, I'm going to miss her.

I'd love to hear from moms who're in the same place in their lives, and from moms who are a few steps down the road.

BTW, I work at the N&O, in marketing and community affairs. We moved to Raleigh in 1995, from South Florida, to be closer to family (mine, in SC) and so that Elizabeth could grow up in a more sane and civil place (and, yay, it worked out!)

Last year, In the fall after my son left for college, I had an empty (or emptying) nest party for a dozen moms whose kids had all gone to college. We celebrated, commiserated, and told stories about our kids. It was a great support. Kids leaving home is a great time for parents to re-define their goals. Enjoy all your transitions.
