Mordecai Historic Park near downtown Raleigh will hold its first baking contest on Sept. 19.

There are cake and cookie categories from both kids (17 and under) and adults. All entries must be baked at home and prizes are awarded on overall appearence, taste, impression and creativity. The contest is open to everyone and contestants can enter as many cakes and cookies as they wish.

Best of all, if you're not a baker, you can just go and eat. Visitors can taste all entries from noon to 1 p.m. the day of the contest.
