Morning sickness: How did you make it through?
I had awful morning sickness with both of my boys.
I was nauseous for the entire nine months while pregnant with James. I could eat certain foods the entire time, but couldn't eat things like sandwiches and meats. Even toothpaste would make me gag. Anything lemony (lemonade, chicken with lemon, lemon spaghetti, etc.) made me feel a little better.
With Jackson I was only sick for the first 15 weeks, but it was the throwing up 24/7 kind of sick. I had a horrible taste in my mouth every second and nothing was appealing. The only thing that made me feel better was the second trimester!!
What has worked for you? How did you cope with morning sickness?

When I was pregnant with my DD, I was queasy nearly all the time, though I never actually got sick. I kept a tin of sour Altoids in my purse (along with plastic bags, because I was thoroughly convinced that I'd get sick on the Metro (subway) while commuting). I also got ginger chews. They're vile, but they were effective in calming my stomach.
I was sick for about five months - all times of day. It was horrible. For about two weeks the only thing I could even think about eating was boiled potatoes, watermelon and pudding. At work, I found an out of the way bathroom that is often empty and spent some quality time there. The key for me was to never let myself get hungry. And surprisingly I didn't gain a ton of weight.
I had an odd revulsion to anything about Wolfgang Puck. When I was about seven weeks pregnant, we were on our way back from San Francisco. I hadn't been feeling sick yet. Before the flight, I got a chicken and cabbage salad from his take-out restaurant at the airport. I ate it. A few hours later, I starting feeling queasy - not food poisoning, morning sickness. And for the entire pregnancy I'd feel sick whenever I heard/see his name (he's all over the frozen food aisle!!). I know - weird.
My first four months were indescribably awful. However, I found a magic cure for my morning sickness. Fresh ginger tea. Really. I just sliced up a raw ginger root into boiling water, boiled it for awhile, maybe five minutes, and drank the water like tea. Bingo. No nausea. It was GREAT. The smells still bothered me. I couldn't enjoy the smell of most foods, perfumes, etc. But when I really felt that motion sickness to my stomach flu feeling, ginger cleared the feeling. There was even one particular brand of ginger snap cookies made with fresh ginger that also worked for me. So I didn't always have to brew the tea. Ginger can work for motion sickness--handy on car rides for kids who have it! I heard Joe Graedon recommend it long after I had used it.
I had horrible, horrible 24-hour sickness until I hit month 5. Really, I would have been hospitalized for dehydration if I hadn't been prescribed Zofran - the miracle drug. It reduced my sickness by about 70% and made life sweet again. :) I opted for the kind that dissolves on your tongue - it tastes like a baby aspirin but it's a little extra insurance it won't come back up a minute later.
Right now, I keep sucking on jolly ranchers. Today is the first day of really, any nausea. I hope it isn't bad this go round!
I was very nauseous with my first 2 (girls). With my 3rd (boy) I threw up all the time, randomly but several times a day. With my 4th (girl) we thought she was a boy b/c I threw up all the time with her. My 5th (girl) was better. I only threw up once in a while with her.
What worked for me - crackers, ginger ale - the real stuff nothing storebrand - and lemon drops. Snacking constantly seemed to help. I think I got sick the most when I got hungry, so keeping hunger at bay helped. Of course there were days when nothing helped but all of that helped at least keep the nausea down to the minimum.
I have been nauseous for about 2 months. I never really got "sick" but it comes in waves where I am overwhelmed with it.
I bought these "preggie pops" from Motherhood Maternity. They seem to work. They are sour candies. I guess you can buy anything sour but a friend recommended that I try them.
I agree with pwfaith as I noticed I was sick more if I was hungry. Isn't that ironic? Good luck.
I was terribly sick at first and nothing really seemed to make it better, until my doctor suggested that I take an additional 50 mg of vitamin B6 every morning in addition to the other vitamins I was attempting to keep down. From the first day I began the B6 it was a wonder drug and I stopped the embarrassing puking in public.
I amazingly have had a wonderful pregnancy...this would be my first also. I am 17 weeks and having a baby girl. I feel lightheaded and a little nausea when i get hungry. Really it is the back aches that bother me, not the nausea.
Kala, I had the back aches too, but it helped if I slept on my side with a body pillow between my knees. The farther along you get, the more your stomach pulls on your spine when you sleep on your side. It seemed to help with me. I had sciatica, too.
When I was pregnant, my mom's advice was to never let yourself get hungry, but to eat tiny healthy snacky meals all day long. Carrot sticks, apples, whole wheat breads.....it helped me a lot and I felt great when I ate right.
