Morning Sickness..severe nausea and Zofran
I am currently 7 weeks pregnant. And the nausea has hit me full force, no vomiting yet, but I get right to the point where I feel like it. It started at about 6 weeks. I feel like I have done everything, from the ginger, B6, the saltines, ginger ale, gum etc.
My Doc. prescribed my Zofran and it definitly supresses the nasuea and I feel like this is the ONLY way I can make it through getting to work and working the full day. I have read pretty good things about it but am curious to see if anyone else is on Zofran or was on Zofran and if there were any side effects to you or the baby.
My doc assured me it is perfectly safe for pregnant women.
Currently right now, I am taking it like every 6 hours. But I just started taking it. And I think I have like at least 6 more weeks of this morning sickness. AH! Help!

I was on zofran for my whole pregnancy and there were no long term effects for me or the baby. I had some headaches that might have been because of the zofran. I was on it in pill form from 10 weeks till 18 weeks and then I had an zofran pump (IV form) that went into my leg 24 hours a day from 18 weeks till my son was born. Are you on the tablet form or the kind that disolves under your tounge? The disolving kind is much easier to handle. I also found that if I took the zofran like at 5 hours and 45 minutes instead of 6 hours that the first pill didn't wear off and I had less chance of getting sick while the new pill took effect.
I'm so sorry that you are going through this. Severe morning sickness is so tough both physically and emotionally.
Hey! Thanks for the comment! That is encouraging news! I am taking the tablet form of the Zofran. As of now, I am not having any trouble keeping it down, which is good. It makes my life so much easier..I still feel not 100%, but am able to go to work today! yay! I am having to take it every 4-6 hours, just depending on how full my stomach is, etc.
Yes, the morning sickness has definitely but a damper on things, but I am trying to keep positive and hoping it will pass. I go in for my first ultra sound on Tuesday (in 5 days) - hopefully that will give me some encouragement :)
Thanks again for your post!
Both of my sisters were on Zofran, one the entire pregnancy. It was the ONLY thing that made the nausea tolerable for one and completely relieved it for the other. From a nursing perspective, I've never encountered a pregnancy complicated by or a baby born with complications from the mother taking Zofran. It is used rather frequently now for intractable nausea during pregnancy. Hopefully in a few more weeks, you'll be over that dreaded hump and feeling much better! Wishing you well and congratulations on your pregnancy!!

You can also try using Sea Bands which you can find at Wal-mart or any pharmacy. They help with the "motion-sickness" type of nausea. That's all I used my whole pregnancy with good results.
I was on Zofran for my son.
I had tried sea bands, fresh ginger, real ginger soda, not the corn syrup "gingerale" that has no ginger in it... Nothing worked but the Zofran. But I am a crunchy mama and wanted to try as many natural methods as I could.
I started out with a small tear in my placenta and the sickness was so bad the tear got larger and larger and I ended up in bed my entire pregnancy. I also had to take Zofran the entire time. (Morning sickness is different for each pregnancy so it may be six weeks, one week or the entire time)
I agree with with Jennifer said about taking them 15 minutes before the expire time or eat some crystallized ginger in between taking doses.
