Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood
UNC-TV recently pulled Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood from its weekday spot at 11:30am, and I am so sad about that. Mr. Rogers teaches kids so many valuable lessons that no other show does, like how to express emotions and how to believe in yourself. PBS does still carry it on Saturdays at 6:30am, but not many kids are going to benefit from that time slot! I have emailed UNC-TV asking that Mr. Rogers at least be shown each weekday. If any of you wish Mr. Rogers was back on the air during the week, please email them. Maybe we can make a difference! Here is a link to their contact page at UNC-TV:

Thanks so much for sharing this information!
I checked in with Steve Volstad, spokesman over at UNC-TV. He says PBS made the decision to only offer one Mister Rogers show a week. Fred Rogers died in 2003 and PBS stations across the country have run repeats since then.
Eliminating Mister Rogers from weekday mornings is one of several changes UNC-TV made this month. It also began airing "Martha Speaks" at 7:30 a.m. and "Sid the Science Kid" at 8:30 a.m. At noon, the station airs "Between the Lions" on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays, and "WordWorld," on Tuesday and Thursdays.
But Volstad told me that PBS knows that this decision to no longer show Mister Rogers as frequently is not popular with a lot of parents. There is some very early discussion right now to create an animated series based on Mr. Rogers. (I haven't watched a lot of shows on PBS Kids, but looking at their Web site it seems that almost every show they air already is animated).
Volstad said he's gotten only a handful of complaints about the programming change. Contact UNC-TV (jenncsu provided that information above) or PBS if you want to see more Mister Rogers. Here's information to contact PBS on its feedback page.
Thanks for the update! Perhaps more parents that are disappointed in the change will contact PBS. Even if they won't add it back every weekday, maybe they can at least add a Sunday time.
It's a bummer!
Warmly,
Carolina Mama
I wonder why they don't just put Mr. Rogers on that new Sprout channel?
