N.C. art museum closing temporarily
The N.C. Museum of Art will close Sept. 7 for seven months so art handlers can move its collection to the new galleries being built next door.
The 164-acre Museum Park will remain open and the museum will present Museum on the Move, a series of lectures, films, concerts, family programs and other offerings in the park and at venues across the Triangle.
The museum's summer movie and concert series also will continue, including the Sept. 11 and Sept. 12 Paperhand Puppet Intervention performances and the Sept. 19 They Might Be Giants concert, featuring a 4 p.m. show for families and an 8 p.m. show for adults.
During the seven-month hiatus, crews will move more than 750 works of art into the new galleries. For safety of visitors and the collection, the building can't remain open, museum officials say.
The new museum is scheduled to open in mid-April.
