New Year's Eve

Alright, anyone planning on taking time to be a couple and go out and DO, on New Year's Eve? We are planning on getting dressed up, going out for dinner and ringing in the new year with a gaggle of total strangers down at Glenwood South. Why? Because it is fun and a once a year thing and no other couple we know ever wants to spend the time or cash to clean up and go out. We always do the RedRoom/Bogarts/High 5 thing and I have no complaints with that scene. This year should be warm again so you don't have to carry a bunch of heavy coats and wraps around. However, we are planning on mixing it up and trying Solas this year after sushi at Mura. Hmm? We'll see. There's a Canes game that night.. could be fun. So, ya'll what else is going on?

Anyway, regardless of how you ring it in style or in your Lazy Boy matching reclining chairs, enjoy!

I love Mura.

We'll be at home with the inlaws - which will be kind of nice. Before the kid, my husband and I went out a few times - to restaurants with special menus, etc., and each time it was really busy, bad service and the food wasn't as good as on a regular night. So we're homebodies on New Year's Eve. Kind of boring maybe ... But we do have plans for a semi-fancy night out this weekend ...
Have fun everybody!

New Year's Eve festivities? I feel like I've been there, done that.

Before Children:
Go to a party until the wee hours. Dress up & dine out (as said, usually somewhere over-priced with poor service). Drink Champagne. One year we were in Times Square. It was cold.

After Children:
First year - at home in sweat pants, we watched other people celebrate on TV. We were in bed by 12:07.

Second year - We fought to stay up. Looking at the clock at 11:45, we wondered if we should go the distance. Nah.... We went to bed.

This year - ??

For the first few years we had kids we couldn't even stay awake until midnight. It was the last thing on our minds. Then we made it past the exhaustation stage, but paying a sitter to watch 4 kids until after midnight, plus the cost of whatever we did, plus having to get up with them at 7am the next day....held no appeal. Now, however, they are old enough to stay by themselves, and we have friends in the neighborhood who throw a big cocktail party every year so it's perfect. We're close by, no cost, and the kids don't wake us up in the morning!! (Every year I toy with going downtown to First Night, but I'm always deterred by the cold.)

Not to be outdone by a huge night at Solas in 2008 with severe hangovers the next day, this year we went to a "roving" party with apps. at one house, dinner at the next house and dessert and champagne at the final residence. This did not outdo, Solas, it was a totally tame couples event, but it was still just fun to get out and do. Since I am due in a couple weeks, I was a DD NYE, but still managed to stay up and ring in the new year with my husband and several new and old buds. The in-laws were a Godsend for free baby sitting on a night that would otherwise cost about $60 just to have some teenager watch your kid and then your TV. Anyway, not yet ready to throw in the heels for bunny slippers and lights out by 11 yet, but there's nothing wrong with that either.
