The Octuplets Mom Wants Money

It's not at all surprising, but Nadya Suleman, the mom of the octuplets plus six more, is seeking donations on her Web site.

In addition to having to care for 14 kids, now the house she lives in is under threat of foreclosure

So would you give money to her?

Even if I had it to give, I wouldn't fork over money to her. I might offer babysitting, cooking, day care or maybe career counseling if she was my friend or I lived nearby so she could help herself instead of holding her hand out for a "helping." The physician who performed the IVF on this woman who is clearly in need of more psychiatric evaluation and less children, should be punished and his license to practice revoked.

Like one of the doctors said on Oprah yesterday, a lot of people would like to donate to these children but how can they trust that Nadya won't go out and get a pedicure with the money instead of giving it to her children? This woman sees nothing wrong with taking food stamps, living off student loans, and accepting social security payments for 3 of her children...she doesn't consider any of it welfare. Someone with no husband and no job should not be undergoing IVF. I don't even understand how that was paid for. She expects hand-outs after she got herself into this. At some point she needs to take responsibility for her own actions.

Anybody catch her on Dr. Phil? I think she was on this morning.

Apparently she called him yesterday to say that she's worried that the hospital won't let her take the babies home when they're ready. Interesting story in the LA Times. Looks like the hospital could hold them or send them to protective services if officials are worried about the babies' welfare.

What a sad situation.

I guess I wouldn't because she needs to learn how to take responsibility for herself and her family. If I simply gave her money, how would that help in the long run? She needs to learn how to deal with her own situation.

O.K. the simple solution to giving this woman monetary support for the babies would be to give her a babies r us gift card or a grocery store gift card that can only be used for the welfare of the babies, not her indulgent habits (i.e. manicures or pedicures). Makes sense to me. The doctor who performed the IVF procedure with all of this forehand knowledge concerning the mother is the one who should be responsible for most of that monetary support! I firmly believe that in this case it will take a village (and perhaps the whole country!) to raise these children! What she did was wrong but let's not punish the babies because of her inexcusable behavior and decisions. "Money" can be provided through many different sources; gift cards, a larger home to accomodate all of the children; donated supplies and services etc... We already support children in this country with our tax dollars in the form of welfare programs etc... what's 8 more??!!  In other words, two wrongs don't make a right!

I can't say I completely agree with placing the blame on the fertility doctor. My husband and I are expecting our 3rd child without the help of fertility treatments, but we DID consult Carolina Conceptions because we had been trying to conceive for over a year (Dr. Park is awesome!). We were told about the various fertility treatments in our consultation, and we expressed our fear of being another "Jon & Kate Plus Eight". The doctor said many people worry about that. He recommended IVF because you have more control over the number of embryos than with IUI. We weren't even too keen on twins so we asked if only 1 embryo could be implanted, and he said certainly yes, that the maximum he would implant would be 2 (if that's what we wanted). It felt very much like we were in the driver's seat in terms of what we would and wouldn't feel comfortable with.

So when I heard that this woman had 6 embryos implanted, well, there's no way she wouldn't have realized the risks. I've seen her in interviews and she's very well-spoken. She was working on her Master's Degree. She's no fool and I'm sure she researched IVF (having done it so many times before). She knew the risks. The doctor is clearly a quack who wanted to boost his success rates, but she could have said no.

answer to question = no, I would not give her money myself. I do not agree with what she did. it was irresponsible. ref to previous comment "What she did was wrong but let's not punish the babies because of her inexcusable behavior and decisions. ". I agree but am saddened by this... is that perhaps a reason one does this? yes, they know its not best decision but they figure someone (taxpayers or otherwise) will bail them out...so why not go for it? again, irresponsible. and yes, at the expense of the children. I just can't understand why someone would knowingly put herself and her children in this difficult situation.

It is apparent that she should be getting her head examined instead of having babies.I can not imagine anyone in their right mind finding this behavior excusable. Those poor kids may never no what a "normal" life is like. The doctor who did this should be supporting the family. As harsh as this sounds, I will not fork over any money to her. That is how the country will keep being in the red by bailing out a bunch of foolishness. I need my money for my own family, yet our tax dollars are somehow going to these programs that support people who make these kinds of decisions and get themselves in a bind. I would be so ashamed and embarrassed. It was decision that she could have said NO do so easliy!

I think if a woman puts herself in such sitution after already having 6 kids already should have to raise them along with the other childred,
the doctors should be in on supporting this family and not us the taxpayers. but I wouldnt give 1 up for adoption but my mind is clear so dont blame others.

Oh my god! I can't imagine that how they are surviving in this world. There is a very big financial crisis in all over the world and people aren't getting jobs and money. Professionals are unable to fulfill their needs they are using payday loan to fulfill their needs.
