Out!
In my Family Outing column today, I feature the Rural Reunion: A Farm Life Festival at Oak View County Park in eastern Wake County. This is a great park for just exploring with a 17-acre pecan grove and 19th century farmhouse. Saturday's event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. marks the end of the park's exhibit on rural electricity.
It's old-timey with a hayride shuttle, butter churning and other events. Plus free barbecue starting at 11 a.m. (until supplies last). Bake a pie from an old family recipe and enter it into the baking contest. Entries must be registered by noon on Saturday.
Burning Coal's KidsWrite Festival will premier three plays by local students. Performances take place at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday and 2 p.m., Sunday. Tickets are $10. The plays, written by two high schoolers and a middle schooler, were selected from submissions from across Wake County.
Mark your calendars for a couple big events coming up if you're into Wizard Rock - that's music for and by Harry Potter fans. Harry and the Potters, which rocked the North Regional Library in North Raleigh last year, is back in the Triangle but at Cat's Cradle in Carrboro on Tuesday, July 1. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The concert starts at 6:30 p.m. and features a couple other bands.
And Eva Perry Regional Library will have its Wizard Rock Concert from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., July 6. More on that next week.
