Out!
The big event this weekend is the Race for the Cure.
From 6 a.m. to about noon on Saturday, thousands will be at Meredith College in Raleigh to run and support breast cancer survivors and research. There's also lots of fun for kids and families, including live entertainment and a KidsZone. Be sure to park at the RBC Center and take one of the 25 shuttle buses to Meredith. (Strollers are allowed on the buses).
In my Family Outing column today, I feature some of the great programs for kids at the N.C. Museum of Art this summer.
Most Wednesdays through July and every Saturday through the end of August, the museum offers something for kids. That includes this Saturday's Family Fun program.
From 10 a.m. to noon, kids and adults will explore the museum and then create postcards of a place they saw in a piece of work. The Family Fun series is best for kids ages 4 and up. Pre-registration is required and spaces fill up. Call 664-6828 to register.
The N.C. Museum of Life and Science has a fun event Saturday for kids ages 3 to 6. Science for Little Peeps is inspired by the popular TV series "Peep and the Big Wide World." The event uses a hands-on activity from the show to help children learn about different science concepts. There are activities all day, but registration is required for four hour-long session where kids will make several different projects. The 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. are full, but there are still plenty of spaces in the 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. sessions.
The American Dance Festival, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, will offers its first For the Kids performance at 1 p.m., Saturday. The performance at Page Auditorium at Duke University is the first of three hour-long performances during the festival that are geared toward kids.
Still wondering what to do for dad on Sunday, here are some ideas. Naturalists at Eno River State Park in Durham offer two hikes for dad and their families - a beaver hike at 10 a.m. and and an evening hike at 8:15 p.m. Registration is required for both hikes.
And check out all the diggers and dozers at Marbles Kids Museum in downtown Raleigh from noon to 5 p.m., Sunday.
