Packing for the pool, park, etc.
How do you pack for the pool and/or park? I feel like a bag lady cause I tend to bring too many bags.
Here are the things I need/try to pack:
lunch and/or snacks
water and/or juice
sunscreen-one for face, one for body
hand sanitizer
diapers
wipes
Then, if we are at the pool, we ALSO need-swim diapers, towels and possibly a change of clothes.
I don't want to be a bag lady anymore! Help me out please!

Welcome to Motherhood! You'll never travel light again. You're list looks a lot like mine. When I'm feeling rebellious, I might leave the hand sanitizer in the car and carry only the wipes. I figure I can clean hands with the wipes, though I may use the sanitizer in the car after our outing. I carry one sunscreen - I have a tube that I place in my purse so it's always with me. Lastly, I try to leave snacks in the car or wait until we get home. They'll whine initially, but sometimes I just don't have the energy to pack the whole deal. Fliuds are important but food is a lower priority. It takes a lot of thought to pack up, doesn't it? Very frustrating when you leave something out!
I agree, it's impossible to travel light. Try not to spend too much time re-packing for each outing though. Always have a bag packed for any occasion. Don't repack every pool visit or outing. Replentish the stock (extraclothes, diapers, etc) each time you need to when you get home, so the stock supply is always ready to go. Perishables are all that have to be redone each trip.
Or keep a stock diaper bag in the car and don't tote all those extras everywhere if your car is nearby and accessible for all those emegency "might needs" that you don't want to lug around.
I would make an outing check list & place it somewhere you will see it prior to leaving. Glance at it prior to leaving for your outing to make sure you have everything. In my car I always have: sunscreen, wipes, plastic bags, hand sanitizer, band aids & one change of clothes for each of my twins. They only come out to be replenished or if the season changes. Secondly, in my mud room I leave a pool bag packed & ready to go. After I come home from the pool I replenish the low items & then it is ready for the next time I go out. I do this with my diaper bag also. The only things I have to think about when I go out are the kids' snacks & drinks. I hope these tips help.
FYI-I bought a big ole Land's End bag this weekend at Sears. It cost less than $20. It's big-still trying to cut down on what I bring, but at least I got a bag that can fit the majority of the stuff.
If anything, drop the hand sanitizer. Its full of toxins. I'm not sure where we all bought into the little squirt of gel-like alcohol actually cleaning dirt off hands. A good hand-washing is better.
